What was your first job as a journalist?

My first professional job was writing for a small sports paper in Irvine, Calif., while still in high school.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

I used one until high school, but I skipped over the entire "word processor" movement and went directly to an Apple and then a PC.

How is social media changing news?

It's not only creating a higher level of reader engagement, but it's helping increase accountability.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Lois Lane

What's your favorite social network?

For news: Twitter; for fun: Instagram.

Why did you become a journalist?

Growing up, I loved writing, so working on my school newspapers became a natural outlet for that leading to my ultimate career choices.
