A Pledge of Mercy
I felt the hot air and a splatter of mud on me. The Germans opened up a barrage while we were in the middle of No-man’s land. They waited. And like fools, we showed up for the slaughter. I buried my face into the mud of the crater, waiting for the onslaught to disperse, or for the sergeant’s merciful whistle to retreat. Through it all, I and Corporal Jay Johnson just wanted to stay alive in the face of the hell we were receiving. It seemed like forever. The ground shook as every blast rang in my ears.
Time after Time - Flash Fiction
'Why do I have to go? I don't look old enough to have a mom or dad in a care home for the aged'. Tom leaned against the door frame and frowned at his boss. He didn't mind investigating these sort of assignments, but in this instance he felt out of his depth. What would he know about an old peoples home? He was only 26 years old.
Flash Fiction- The Watering Hole
Pete only had a couple stair flights to reach his favorite watering hole, a bar where he spent every waking hour. He sat down and ordered his usual, a double shot of whiskey with a water chaser. He'd lived in a little one bedroom apartment above the bar since his retirement two years ago. He'd worked on the docks loading and unloading ships since he was old and strong enough to lift cargo coming and going. He had never married and had no surviving family.
Top 5 Tim Burton Films
I believe that Burton, after Ed Wood in 1994, decided to make his own Ed Woodesque film and this was the result. The movie was not the box office success it deserved to be, only grossing back its 100 million dollar budget. However, just a quick glance at the film's poster is enough to make you realise you are in for something special. Tim Burton was at the top of his game back then and he was able to get the best of Hollywood for this ridiculously crazy movie.
By Virtue
Room 522-224, the autopsy room is where Nathan Chambers was headed. There was a noxious smell that hit him as he stepped into the room. He tried to shake it, but it stuck to him like sweat on a hot August afternoon. He stopped by to wait for some critical evidence, but he knew sometimes it could be back logged for long periods. A single autopsy could take less than an hour, it all depended on the complexity of the case and/or the extent of the wounds.
Death Among Lovers- Flash Fiction
Marsha looked up from the breakfast table, her husband Carl was seated across from her, sipping a cup of coffee and reading the morning paper. It had been months since she'd met her new lover, Tony. How many times had she opened her mouth to confess, only to get up and pour herself another cup of coffee? She and Carl had grown apart after ten years of marriage and two adorable little girls, Romana and Carlee. Tony was growing more impatient with each passing day. Remembering her promise to tell Carl.
The Boulevard of Empty Shoes (a flash fiction story)
I woke up with a start. Not knowing what aroused me I stared at the alarm clock. It was 7.00 am; time for me to get up for work, but the alarm hadn't gone off. I showered, dressed, downed a quick cup of instant coffee, slipped on my shoes, and walked out the door. I only lived three blocks from my office building so rarely drove; besides walking was healthier and you could enjoy the sights. Today, though, something seemed a little odd.
The Colour of Winter
Alina hadn’t heard Annika speak in months. At times it was hard to hear her mother’s inner voice over the white noise of terminal illness. The last words Alina could recall hearing her mother say were “oh my” as she gazed at the dogwoods in the fullness of their season, pink and delicate with blooms pointing toward a sky of brilliant blue. Alina had felt what her mother saw in that moment.
The Purse: Flash Fiction by cam
I drift among the spirits as though I’m shopping rather than stalking. I grab a fifth of bourbon and move in her direction. She’s examining the tomatoes and has left her purse in the child’s seat of the cart. Now she’s even farther away, browsing lettuce varieties in the refrigerated section. Five feet to go. She turns. I turn. That was too close. In the meat and deli department, she picks out ham and cheese, possibly to go with the tomatoes and lettuce.
Jayxen: The Adolescent - Part 1 (World of Warcraft FanFiction)
At sixty and fifty-seven, Alucardia and Jayxen began to set up their home in Shattrath. They each chose opposite factions of the large city in Outland. As they separately earned money and reputation, the idea was that they could cover all of the Outlands this way. As Alucardia searched only for their family, though, Jayxen had long since lost hope of finding them. They had known no one when they were separated, and the reality grew inside her that there was no one that would know them now.
