Alphonso Van Marsh is an African American international broadcast journalist and communications specialist, currently based in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire. He has more than a 15 years experience reporting for CBS News and CNN. He's also freelanced for NBC News, PBS Frontline/WORLD and a host of print publications, including travel writing for Hilton, Sheraton and Oberboi hotels' in-house magazines.
Winner of a National Headliner Award for breaking the news of American forces capturing Saddam Hussein, with his own exclusive video, Marsh has had numerous stints covering conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Marsh was one of CNN's pioneering "one-man band" journalists using digital newsgathering and satellite technology to report solo across Africa and the Middle East. He has been based in Egypt, USA, Turkey, South Africa, England, Kenya, Lebanon and the Philippines.
In communications, Marsh is the recipient of four Academcy of Interactive and Visual Arts "Communicator Awards of Distinction" - celebrating excellence in marketing and communications. He's served as Head of Asian Development Bank's MultiMedia Unit and currently serves as Principal Digital Content and Events Officer with African Development Bank.
Marsh is also a skilled media trainer: contracted by Video Cairo/Thomson Reuters to train novice journalists to international broadcast standards for the Video News Now online pilot project. He also advised SAE Institute (Dubai) on curriculum for a certificate journalism program and worked with Lebanon’s Samir Kassir Center for Media & Cultural Freedom and the Global Center for Journalism and Democracy.
