Braking point: Students debate mandatory driver re-examinations
PRO Just last month in our own state, a 93-year-old woman crashed her SUV into the outdoor dining area of a restaurant in the beach town of Lavallette. The old woman slammed the gas pedal, mistaking it for the brakes and plowed through the tables where people were enjoying their meals. The crash instantly killed one person and left seven bystanders injured. The 93-year-old woman will not be charged, according to police reports.
Level up: Students debate video game remakes
PRO It can be very easy to feel uneasy when old ideas are revisited. The slightest change can disrupt the sacred image we have of something. In today’s age, companies milk that sacred nostalgia often. But while movies and TV shows suffer too often from rehashes, video games are a strange, unique medium, more malleable for experimentation and remixing. In 2017, Nintendo shocked the Internet by announcing “Samus Returns,” the first 2D entry in the beloved Metroid franchise since 2002.
A Ramapo spin on ‘Family Feud’ was a blast
This past Friday night, Resident Assistant Anthony Gilardi hosted his very own “Family Feud” game night with a Ramapo twist to it. The event took place in Laurel Hall’s screening room. The real “Family Feud” game show, hosted by Steve Harvey, showcases two families going head-to-head in answering questions from public surveys. If a family successfully guesses all the correct survey responses, they clear the board and win the points of the round.
Laurel Hall hosts tasty and fun Stay-A-Float event for residents
Last Thursday night, Laurel Hall had a soda float event hosted by Resident Assistant Shadley Trezil. At this event, students could create their own tasty root beer or cream soda float and top it with anything they could think of. RA Shadley thought of everything for this event: varying flavors of soda, plenty of ice cream flavors, and endless toppings.
Hispanic Latinx Heritage Celebration event was a success
Last Wednesday, Sept. 16, the Office of Access, Belonging and Community and the Multicultural Center hosted their Hispanic Latinx Heritage Month Celebration in the Alumni Lounges. The celebration was co-hosted by many organizations on campus, including the Organization of Latino Unity (OLU), Association of Latinos Moving Ahead, Association of Latino Professionals for America, Latinx Pre-Law Society and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
Ed Sheeran tour interrupted due to pro-Palestine comments
Last Monday, Macklemore announced his forced departure from Ed Sheeran’s “Loop Tour” in North America. During his opening act at MetLife Stadium, Macklemore took a moment to state his stance towards the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Middle East.
Diving in: Students debate lifeguarding age requirement
PRO For decades now, the American Red Cross has established the legal age to acquire a lifeguard certification at 15 years old in the U.S. As a matter of fact, when I was 15, my first job was lifeguarding at a local pool club in my hometown, which I still continue to work at. Being 15 is, for some people, a serious stage in their life. It’s when you start working and begin to form your professional demeanor and mannerisms.
FASA holds first bake sale of the semester
The Filipino American Student Association (FASA) held their first bake sale of the semester this Monday, March 9. Right in the C-Wing Fishbowl, homemade goods were sold for students to enjoy. Their selection consisted of marzipan, ube crinkle cookies, cassava cake and ube flan — a campus favorite. FASA tries to host at least three bake sales a semester and later in the year, they plan on hosting Ube Fest.
Mitski releases new album after 3 years
What artist can say they’ve gone eight for eight with incredible albums? Not many, but Mitski can say it proudly. Her newest album released on Feb. 27, “Nothing’s About to Happen to Me,” is her most impressive and technical work yet. With her stunning vocal range and gut-wrenching storytelling, no one does a concept album better than Mitski. “In a Lake” starts off with a reflection of regret as Mitski feels trapped in her life due to past mistakes.
Mitski drops promising single
As a long time Mitski fan, it’s refreshing to see others excited again for a new album after three years of waiting. “I’ll Change for You” not only signifies a new, experimental era for her, but raises the hype and expectations for Mitski’s album. On Feb. 3, Mitski released this second single for her eighth studio album, “Nothing’s About to Happen to Me,” premiering at the end of the month. Her previous single, “Where’s My Phone?” was definitely a shock for me.
Joyce Manor still has it with ‘I Used to Go to This Bar’
California’s finest pop-punk trio released their eighth studio album, “I Used to Go to This Bar” to start 2026 off right. With a four year gap from their last release, Joyce Manor fans were met with a nostalgia-fueled rollercoaster about the lows (and extreme lows) of getting older. The first single was teased all the back in August of last year, titled “All My Friends Are So Depressed.” No words can describe how not-Joyce Manor this song really is.
Commuter Affairs puts on breakfast
On Monday, Feb. 2, Ramapo’s Commuter Affairs held a Commuter Breakfast event to bring the campus’ commuter population together. The event was held on the Student Center second floor, right outside of the campus bookstore. The free student breakfast began at 9:00 a.m. and lasted until 10:30 a.m. The event consisted of two large tables with plenty of breakfast items to choose from.
Kenyan runners shine at 2025 New York City Marathon
The New York City Marathon took place on Nov. 2 and delivered exciting endings for both the women and the men running. During the women’s race, Hellen Obiri, a Kenyan middle-distance runner, managed to set a new record for history. ESPN comments, “Obiri, who also won the race in 2023, finished in 2 hours, 19 minutes and 51 seconds.” This time beat the previous record of 2:22.31 set by Margaret Okayo back in 2003. Second place went to Sharon Lokedi, also a Kenyan runner.
‘Chainsaw Man’ film wows audiences
After five years of waiting, “Chainsaw Man” fans were blessed with a movie adaptation that did not disappoint. Written and drawn by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the “Chainsaw Man” manga follows Denji as he deals with devils and humans trying to steal his chainsaw heart. The film perfectly illustrates an emotional but brutal story about the right people at the wrong time.
Pinegrove’s new compilation album captures a lovely moment in time
Montclair’s finest American indie rock band, Pinegrove, released a new compilation of live songs on October 3rd. Following the tradition of their last two “Elsewhere” albums, “Elsewhere 3” contains eleven live performance recordings. While “Elsewhere” and “Elsewhere 2” showcased eight tracks, “Elsewhere 3” is blessed with three extra tracks, two of which were played right here in Jersey.
