Alabama plays part in travels to moon
Four astronauts on NASA’s Artemis II mission are on the seventh day of a 10-day test flight around the Moon and back. That’s something that hasn’t been true in more than 50 years — not since NASA’s last lunar mission, Apollo 17, in December 1972. At that time, shrinking budgets, declining public support and a lack of a realistic “what next?” led NASA under the Nixon administration to scrap the remaining Apollo missions and move on to the next thing — the space shuttle.
Protect local deposits which power growth
Most conversations about new digital payment tools often miss a crucial reality: When money exits community bank deposits, local lending is directly impacted. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized: “In a fractional banking system, deposits finance lending. When deposits flow out, the ability to have capital to lend is greatly diminished.” This isn’t just rhetoric from Washington, it’s the financial foundation for every Alabama community.
Meeting highlights service, awards
Members of the GFWC Book Lovers Study Club reported more than $2,700 was raised for community causes, and the chapter received multiple awards during the GFWC Alabama North District Spring meeting held at Faith Presbyterian Church in Huntsville. Parkinson’s Management
David Hood admits he did not know much about Parkinson’s Disease when he was diagnosed around four years ago. The Swampers bassist, 82, said he did not experience the tremors generally associated with the disease. Instead, he had short term memory issues and spine problems, and the diagnosis came as a surprise to him and his wife, Judy. That’s when they discovered Bri Maharrey and the Helen Keller Hospital Parkinson’s Disease Management Program. “Parkinson’s is extremely overwhelming,” Judy said.
