The Darkest Minds
Overall 4 out of 5 stars Performance 4 out of 5 stars Story 3 out of 5 stars Not Your Daughter's Heroine Being 40 and male, I am probably not the perfect choice to critique this book (also, I am not an author so my opinion truly counts for nothing). However, I am a father of three girls so maybe what I have to say might be a little relevant. I am an imperfect feminist. While I have my faults, I applaud and appreciate strong female characters and I seek them out in stories.
Review: We Are Not Free by Traci Chee
We Are Not Free tells the story of a group of 14 Japanese-American teenaged friends who grew up in Japantown, San Francisco. When racist sentiments begin to brew in the US about Japanese American citizens following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the government begins to send them to internment camps. Some teenagers are separated from family members, and all must live in squalid conditions within the camps. However, they remain close knit as they live through their time there.
Review: Tales From The Hinterland by Melissa Albert
Reading this book, I felt almost that Tales from the Hinterland by Melissa Albert was a collection of Grimm’s fairytales and not collection of unique stories written and compiled by the author herself as it was that good. Albert’s prose throughout the entire book was breathtaking. She put words together in a way that I could taste and feel.
Review: One of the Good Ones by Maika Moulite and Maritza Moulite
One of The Good Ones was easily one of the best books I read in 2020 and should be featuring on many similar lists this year. It’s an emotional, impactful, and brilliant story that weaves the horrific realities of systematic and structural racism in both the past and present with an utterly compelling mystery. Right from the start, you know you’re in for a ride, as it opens with an incredibly powerful author’s note.

Review by Heidi W, Reviewer Last updated on 07 Jan 2021 My Recommendation Amanda Hocking ends her trilogy to the Omte Origins. The first several sections cover what happened in the first two books. Making sure readers are caught up before the big battle at the end of the work which is epic. The author answers all the questions that were left hanging in the first two books. YA Books To Read If You Love Angsty Male Leads
Okay so after reviewing this list it became apparent that most of these books are fantasy and the majority about werewolves and vampires. My only definitive personality trait is how much I love Twilight so this makes sense. Also, hot, young adult angst is pretty much trademarked by our werewolf and vampire friends.
Review: The Divines by Ellie Eaton
“Divines could be cruel, conceited, arcane, but we were faithful to the end. We sobbed and hugged one another. Forever, we promised, always. Nothing could break us apart, proving in the end how much we underestimated Gerry. We swore on our lives. We crossed our hearts.” Ellie Eaton’s compelling debut is a study into how we constantly reshape our memories in order to make them fit better with the personal identities we are trying to build in the present.

Review by Kelly M, Media Last updated on 24 Jul 2020 My Recommendation The Lost City is the first in what looks like is going to be an original and interesting fantasy series. The main character is well written and likeable so you buy in to the story. Hopefully in the next book we learn more about the world the story is set in. But it's good opening to a series. The Bookshelf: Let's go to the carnival
Everyone loves a good carnival. The sights, smells, and sounds seemingly are enough to write a story of their own, and the nostalgia they bring is as sweet as anything. It’s no wonder they make great settings and devices for iconic books. Here are a few of our favorites to get you in the carnival mood and set you on a course to the memories they bring:Scarlett Dragna has spent her life dreaming of Caraval, the exclusive immersive carnival-esque show on a far off island.
Blog Tour: Author Chat with Amanda Hocking (Between the Blade and the Heart), Plus Giveaway!
Q: What or who was the inspiration behind Between the Blade and the Heart? A: I have already written several books inspired by Scandinavian folklore, and I was always fascinated by Valkyries. But because I had already done in Scandinavian fantasy, I wanted to come at this one from a different angle. I imagined the Valkyries helping to police a gritty, diverse, cyberpunk metropolis, in a world filled with not just Norse figures but from many mythologies.

How I Became a Published Author
This is going to be the first post in a three part series about writing/publishing that I’m doing. The reason is that I still get a lot of questions about publishing, writing, and how I did/do what I did/do. So I thought it would be easiest if I just wrote out at long posts explaining everything, and then I can direct people to these posts instead of writing out individual replies each time.
