What was your first job as a journalist?
My first job was an education reporter at the Bristol (Va.) Herald Courier. I stayed there for a year and a half. Learned a lot from that job
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I'm not that young, of course I've used a typewriter. I miss typewriters actually. Maybe I'll buy one for just to stare at it occassionally.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means you spend life gathering the most important news for your readers to know on a given day. It also means you'll probably be poor.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Phone call is still OK. How I am pitched doesn't make a difference on whether I'll take on the story or not. The story itself dictates that.
What's your favorite social network?
I'm actually a fan of Tumblr more than Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. Tumblr is that nice marriage between Wordpress, Instagram and Facebook
Who do you wish followed you?
I wish Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups followed me. Forgive me, I'm a huge Clippers fan and those guys are fantastic players.
Why did you become a journalist?
The short answer is because I'm not good at anything else. The long answer isn't exciting enough for you to want to spend the time reading.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did. I covered varsity football.
When's the best time to pitch you?
8am to 5 p.m.
