What was your first job as a journalist?
My first paid position was on my college newspaper at the Eastern Echo.
How is social media changing news?
SM is causing a slippery slope for Journalists - from trying to have the info first, to fact-checking, it's a gift and a curse.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Sharing content that is captivating and correct - unbiased.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Adobe Creative Suite, G Suite, CaptilizeMyTitle.com, Otter.ai, Wordpress, Social Media Apps
What's your favorite social network?
I use TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter the most. I use each for different things, so it's hard to pick a favorite.
Why did you become a journalist?
I have always valued telling the truth, even if it hurts. Biased journalism is alive and thriving right now, and I want to change that.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I was requested to join by the Communications Tech Department to completely re-design and became Co-Editor. I also ranked as Photo Editor.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write. Write. Keep writing. Start a website / blog. Cut your teeth on local reporting. Build your brand.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Not sure I've ever had a "worst pitch" but if you e-mail me 20x about the same pitch, it makes me not want to cover it.
What's your favorite drink?
Coffee (Iced Americano with Oat Milk), Orange Juice, Water. I stopped drinking Alcohol and started using Cannabis instead.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Out shooting photographs, content creating on social media, watching something nerdy on streaming services.
