Nigeria’s restructuring: Can Arewa bite the bullet?
The best way to illustrate the North’s present precarious socio- economic position in Nigeria today is that of the proverbial rabbit caught in the crossfire lights of an oncoming vehicle. Time for Emir Sanusi to quit
Emir Sanusi Royals the world over are held in very high esteem, and as such they’re expected to abide by high standard of moral conduct in their private and public lives. Therefore, when in 1936 it became clear to Edward VIII that as king and head of the Church of England, it was a taboo for him to marry a divorcee, he abdicated the throne of England to marry the woman he loved.

The Dabo dynasty (1819-2019): A Bicentennial – Daily Trust
On a ride home from my farm one day, listening to Salihu Jankidi’s epic songs of a past glorious, I felt my hairs raised and tears welling up my eyes, and questions and thoughts running through my mind. I felt sad and disappointed at how we seem to have lost our cultural identity, norms, values and even our history to the onslaught of toxic, corrosive and bad foreign attitudes, influences and behaviors mostly via the electronic media in the name of westernization and globalization.
The folly of Arewa’s conspiracy of silence
At the moment, no one can deny the fact that Nigeria is going through one of its most turbulent times in its chequered history. And Arewa, my beloved North, is gradually being decimated right before our very eyes. At a time when the leadership of the country is being piloted by one of our so-called ‘very own’ PMB, the region has never had it so bad; whether socially, culturally, economically, but most importantly, security; or to put it in context, the lack of it.

Nigeria: Post-PMB - Can Arewa Confront Its Underbelly?
opinion By Aminu ImamAlthough the futuristic question of: "After PMB, what next for Arewa?" may sound simply farfetched, in reality. It is not. When PMB won the 2015 election, indeed ever since he ventured back to partisan politics, most of the hopes and expectations from the masses, especially in the core North, were heaped on this singular soul, as if he had a magic wand, like Moses, who could magically transform their lives as soon as he assumed power.
Post-PMB: Can Arewa confront its underbelly?
This perceived expectations, with its extreme version exhibited by die-hard and sometimes almost-‘psychopathic’ loyalists, is reminiscent of the pre-historic stories of the type of worship exhibited by the post-Sokoto Jihad generation of illiterates, who in their blind groping of their faith continued to cling to an unfathomable mirage that their Shehu’s death (a la matyrdom) translates to their ‘salvation’.
‘Austerlitz’ 2019
Less than a year from now the Nigerian general elections might have come and gone, and indeed won and lost.
