Amir Muhammad (Harbo)
Amir Muhammad (Harbo)’s Biography
I am a Nigerian journalist, researcher and development professional from Jigawa State, based in Abuja. I write about governance, education, gender equality, public health and community development, with a particular interest in how policies affect everyday life in Nigeria.
My experience spans radio and digital journalism, fact-checking, research and public communication. At Sawaba Radio Hadejia, I worked in digital journalism and was Head of Administration and Digital Operations. I have also worked as a Hausa linguist, supporting language and localisation projects.
Alongside journalism, my work with Nigeria’s National Assembly as a consultant and UNIK Impact Foundation has involved policy research, legislative documentation, community programmes and evidence-based advocacy. These experiences inform my interest in public institutions, access to services and the voices of underserved communities.
I was selected for the Equal Measures 2030 Storytelling with Gender Data Fellowship in 2025, through which I explored women’s representation in Nigeria’s parliament. My academic research has examined artificial intelligence and natural language processing in Nigerian media, and I have contributed to published public health research.
I hold a master’s degree in Information Management from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a bachelor’s degree in English Language from Sule Lamido University. I work in English and Hausa.
