Tissue Doppler echocardiography predicts long-term cardiovascular mortality: the Anglo-Scandinavian Cardiac Outcomes Trial (ASCOT) legacy 20-year follow-up study
It is known that left ventricular diastolic function, as assessed by tissue Doppler echocardiography, predicts cardiovascular prognosis over a 5-year follow-up period. However, it is not known whether this continues to be important in the long term. Tissue Doppler echocardiography predicts cardiovascular mortality during a 20-year follow-up, independent of standard cardiovascular risk assessment.
New AI tool ‘can rapidly rule out heart attacks in people attending A&E’
A new artificial intelligence tool (AI) developed in the UK can rapidly rule out heart attacks in people attending A&E and help tens of thousands avoid unnecessary hospital stays each year, according to its creators. Known as Rapid-RO, the AI tool has been found to successfully rule out heart attacks in over a third of patients across four UK hospitals during trials.

The Bi-directional Relationship of CVD and COVID-19
Graphical Abstract: The bidirectional relationship between cardiovascular disease and COVID-19 infection. ECMO, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. The recent outbreak of a novel coronavirus illness (coronavirus disease 2019; COVID-19) has emerged as a public health crisis of global proportions. The cardiology community has been captivated by COVID-19, perhaps more than any other systemic disease in history, due to its apparent links with cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Invasive versus non-invasive management of older patients with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (SENIOR-NSTEMI): a cohort study based on routine clinical data
Summary Background Previous trials suggest lower long-term risk of mortality after invasive rather than non-invasive management of patients with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), but the trials excluded very elderly patients. We aimed to estimate the effect of invasive versus non-invasive management within 3 days of peak troponin concentration on the survival of patients aged 80 years or older with NSTEMI.

Inception of the ‘endocarditis team’ is associated with improved survival in patients with infective endocarditis who are managed medically: findings from a before-and-after study
A formal ET approach to managing patients with IE was introduced at our hospital in 2012. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of an MDT management approach on the outcome of patients with IE according to medical or surgical treatment strategies. To facilitate complex decision-making, a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach may support the management of patients with IE.
