Per current standard of care, melanoma, the most aggressive skin cancer, is identified in suspicious nevi using subjective clinical observations based on the ABCDE (Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter, and Evolution) criteria. However, not all lesions presenting these criteria are melanomas, while some melanomas do not present these criteria. Therefore, a biopsy and histopathology evaluation are performed, resulting in a large ratio of biopsies to melanoma diagnosed.
