On August 25, 2026, the Government of Canada announced a new package of trade countermeasures and financial support programs in response to recent U.S. tariff actions. The announcement follows Canada’s decision to suspend trade negotiations with the United States after concluding that the latest U.S. proposals were not in Canada’s national interest.

On February 24, 2025, the Government of Canada announced further amendments to the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations (“the Russia Regulations”). These amendments list an additional 44 entities and 32 individuals, both Russian and non-Russian, in Schedule 1 of the Russia Regulations.
