In 2025, I thought a lot about the things I want to say to my boss – I thought a lot about that
I’m sitting down to write this in a gap between jobs. The downtime is strange, like the world has stopped moving but my thoughts haven’t caught up. Other than replaying the shit that went down during the last six months – or to put it more bluntly, the reasons I left, I don’t quite know what to do with myself. What happened wasn’t unique. And that’s the part that bothers me most. It’s the same stuff I hear from friends, colleagues, people I trust across the industry.
In 2023, I thought a lot about kindness — I thought about that a lot
In 2023, I thought a lot about kindness Published on 21 December 2023 Last year, I was standing at a bus stop in the rain without an umbrella. I’d not predicted, when I left home in a rush, that it was going to rain. My bus was still five soggy minutes away. As the rain got harder, something extraordinary happened. A woman waiting beside me at the bus stop who had had the foresight to bring an umbrella took a few steps towards me.
In 2023, I thought a lot about the friend who's sad i'm single — I thought about that a lot
In 2023, I thought a lot about the friend who’s sad I’m single Published on 7 December 2023 Hello love, How are you getting on? How are the kids? I know it must be a bit overwhelming now that you’ve got two and I hope you know you can always come to me for hugs/mugs of tea/holding the baby whilst you nap or have a relaxed poo. Nobody should rush that shit. Literally! And as to your parents-in-law and their helpful ‘tips’ I say fuck ‘em mate, I think you’re smashing it.
In 2023, I thought a lot about caregiving and my love life — I thought about that a lot
In 2023, I thought a lot about caregiving and my love life Published on 3 December 2023 This year, I jumped back into the dating pool and sighed, swiped and rolled my eyes at vest-clad men presenting giant fish; cigar-sucking men on yachts; disastrously-tattooed, shirtless men and other horrors. It’s an essay in itself but it’s not the dating essay I’m sharing today. You see, each time I’ve gone back on the apps, my little brother takes front and centre stage in my mind.

Kozue, Park Hyatt
My knowledge of Japanese cuisine was only a smidgen above zero when I touched down in Tokyo. Despite the popularity of machine-rolled sushi flogged in supermarkets and the flurry of ramen houses that have popped up in recent years, the mass market (me included) is only familiar with a narrow cross section of Japanese cuisine in the UK. With this in mind, I tried to widen my horizons and see what the heck else I could trough during my time there.
Country By Country
I was in great company. Karl Marx, Mozart, Jimi Hendrix and The Who are just a few of the legends to have strolled the streets of Soho. The first stop on our evening food tour of the district was La Bodega Negra on Old Compton Street, where piquant cameron (prawn) and pulled pork tacos were washed down with a deliciously fruity frozen pineapple margarita.
