There has been some commentary on the changes in the NHS pensions access rules which we are aware has caused a great deal of anxiety for primary care networks (PCNs). Many PCNs across the country have formed limited companies as a vehicle for providing services and employing staff on behalf of the PCN practices (PCN companies). Prior to 31 March 2023, there was no formal route under NHS pension scheme regulations by which those companies could provide access to the scheme for their staff.
