What was your first job as a journalist?
I was a multimedia intern at The Indianapolis Star. I am still young in my journalism career.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. My mom taught typewriting at a local high school so I got to "play" with the typewriters in her classroom.
How is social media changing news?
Drastically. We are no longer just a byline. We can take control of promoting our content and engaging with readers.

What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means caring about the community around you...living it, loving it and sharing it.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?
LOTS of them. Coding, JQuery, DataTables, Google docs, Document Cloud...
What's your favorite social network?
I'm obsessed with Pinterest right now. I believe there is untapped potential for journalism there.
Who do you wish followed you?
I would think it was really cool if any local professional sports player followed me. It will happen one day.
Why did you become a journalist?
My job is different every day. I get to help inform and share with my community. It's a changing industry and keeps me on my toes.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No. I didn't figure out how much I loved journalism until college.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I developed the digital presentation for a project called 49 Miles, 49 Minutes. We told the stories of victims from a tragic tornado.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Become a professional learner. Get to know your co-workers. Step out of your comfort zone. Use the resources around you. Be passionate.
