Dear Editor We thank De Jonge et al for their rapid response to our paper on the risk of a complicated birth in nulliparous and multiparous women. In their response, De Jonge et al. express concerns about the use of the term ‘trial of labour’ and our interpretation of the results. First, we indeed refer to all women who did not have an elective caesarean section as having had a trial of labour. We used that as a short-hand factual description of this group of women.
