Abstract Objectives Patients with tinnitus often have somatic complaints, a reality that is understudied in the broader literature on tinnitus. This study aims to characterize tinnitus patients with somatic complaints, investigate associations between somatic complaints and tinnitus, hyperacusis, and symptoms of anxiety and depression, and to compare patient profiles across genders and healthcare services.
INTRODUCTION Misophonia is a term first coined by Jastreboff and Jastreboff (2001), and the disorder has been defined and characterized differently since then (Brout, Edelstein, Erfanian, et al., 2018). However, a recent publication by Swedo, Baguley, Denys, et al. (2022) has aimed to establish a consensus definition to enhance the understanding of the disorder and facilitate the development of effective treatments.
People encounter more than factual information in everyday life. As a matter of fact, people spend large portions of their time consuming mediated content, such as movies, novels, and video games. Pretense and role-playing, experienced directly without a medium, are also common elements in people’s lives. Such activities can involve fiction or fictional information. Thus, fiction permeates many situations, and its purpose is not only entertainment but also education and socialization.
