Anticipated Opportunity Dynasty Strategy (2023 Fantasy Football)
There are so many viable strategies to win in dynasty leagues, which is one of the reasons dynasty is the best way to play fantasy football. You can aim to win now or engage in a “Productive Struggle.” You can go Zero RB, Hero RB, or RB-heavy. You can hoard QBs or wait to take them until the late rounds. The possibilities are endless. No matter which plan you choose, though, you’ll want to pair it with a method for mining value that I like to call the Anticipated Opportunity Strategy.
“Productive Struggle” Dynasty Startup Strategy (2023 Fantasy Football)
My favorite strategy in dynasty startups is to build a team that can win now and later, as I detailed in a previous article on the Superflex startup strategy. However, suppose the choice is between drafting a short-term contender or a team that will struggle in year one before eventually developing into a perennial contender. In that case, I’ll go for the delayed gratification every time.
Dynasty Superflex Startup Draft Strategy (2023 Fantasy Football)
Justin Herbert is one of 11 QBs worth starting your dynasty team with. Everyone knows that QB is the most crucial position in football, but it took the fantasy game quite a while to reflect that reality. Superflex may not yet be the dominant format for casual players, but it is for the hardcore among us, especially those who play dynasty.
Fantasy Football Week 13 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
Welp, we were bound to get one of these bad injury weeks eventually. But it couldn’t have come at a much worse time, with the fantasy playoffs just around the corner. Let’s not sugarcoat it: Week 13 was a bloodbath, particularly at the quarterback position. I know that #nobodycares about my fantasy team, but it seems emblematic of what many fantasy managers are dealing with as we assess the wreckage on Monday morning.
Fantasy Football Week 12 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
Thanksgiving Week is always a special one on the NFL calendar. Being around friends and/or family, it links fantasy matchups of seasons past to specific memories in a way other weeks of the season don’t. That said, it also helps when we get a side of good football with our turkey. This week didn’t disappoint, and I’m not just saying that because my Wolverines STOMPED the Buckeyes on Saturday (although that was a pretty big reason). The NFL delivered the goods, too.
Fantasy Football Week 11 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
I won’t lie, Week 11 was looking a little light on key takeaways initially. It was another week of stagnant offense for many teams across the league — and the fantasy squads built around them. You know it’s not a great sign when one of the top storylines you’re considering involves shifting playing time in the Rams’ putrid backfield. We didn’t even get the crazy snow game in Buffalo that it looked like we would earlier in the week.
Fantasy Football Week 10 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
Week 10 was, undoubtedly, the wildest installment of NFL football yet in 2022. From a fantasy perspective, it was dominated by the uncertain game-day status of three signal-callers: Josh Allen, Kyler Murray and Matthew Stafford. Murray and Stafford were scheduled to face off in the late window of games, adding further complications for fantasy managers, but thankfully we had a pretty good sense by 1 p.m. ET that both would sit. Far and away, the biggest intrigue centered on Allen.
Fantasy Football Week 9 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
If you’re like me, you spend a good portion of your week staring at your fantasy lineup, stewing over who to start/sit and gaming out your odds of victory. But sometimes, none of that planning and obsessing ends up mattering in the slightest. Sometimes, you’re facing Joe Mixon. Mixon’s slate-breaking Week 9 highlights one of the main complaints with fantasy football’s standard head-to-head matchup format.
Fantasy Football Week 8 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
Entering Week 8, NFL scoring was down to its , and watching teams across the league felt more like a trip to the dentist’s office than the candy store. Thankfully, all of that changed this week, when we were handed the tasty treats we so richly deserve this Halloween season. Incredibly, five different wide receivers or running backs accounted for three touchdowns on Sunday: A.J. Brown, Alvin Kamara, D’Onta Foreman, Tony Pollard and Christian McCaffrey.
Fantasy Football Week 7 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
The lead-up to Week 7 was dominated by one of the biggest in-season trades in recent memory. Christian McCaffrey, a consensus top-two pick in 2022 fantasy drafts, was dealt from one of the league’s most dysfunctional offenses to the most running back-friendly offense in the entire league.
Fantasy Football Week 6 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
Week 6 was chock full of surprises and not necessarily the good kind for fantasy managers. It’s the kind of week where it’s a lot easier to come up with disappointments than pleasant surprises. Sure, neutral observers probably enjoyed the rare defeats suffered by Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Lamar Jackson. Or the simple fact that five of the eight underdogs in the early window games won outright. And Bills-Chiefs mostly lived up to the hype in fantasy and reality.
Fantasy Football Week 5 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
One thing we all learn quickly as fantasy football managers is that things often don’t go according to plan. In a way, the Week 5 slate was a microcosm of it. It began with a Thursday night game that was supposed to be a matchup of two of the best young running backs in the league. Unfortunately, the Colts’ Jonathan Taylor missed the game with an ankle injury while the Broncos’ Javonte Williams will be missing the rest of the season with a severe knee injury.
Fantasy Football Week 4 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
If you have Alvin Kamara on your fantasy team and live on the West Coast, you may have experienced a rude awakening on Sunday morning. Kamara, who was officially listed as questionable but considered likely to play heading into the weekend, was a surprise inactive for the Saints’ matchup with the Vikings in London, which kicked off at 6:30 am Pacific time. He ended up being started in 38% of CBS leagues, and likely a similar number of leagues at other sites.
Fantasy Football Week 3 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
Week 3 was not the prettiest week in football. In a sense, it’s fitting that it will be remembered as the week of the “Butt Punt.” There were lots of punts and lots of offenses that played like…well, you know. Still, every week of NFL football has fantasy points that are scored and key storylines to follow. Week 3 is no different. So let’s dive right into it.
Fantasy Football Week 2 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
Week 2 was a wild installment of NFL football and had a bit of everything. There was no shortage of remarkably improbable comebacks, including the Jets coming back from 13 down in the final two minutes to beat the Browns, the Dolphins overcoming a 21-point fourth-quarter deficit to down the Ravens and the Cardinals beating the Raiders in overtime after trailing 20-0 at the half.
Fantasy Football Week 1 Takeaways: Surprises & Disappointments (2022)
Skip to main content For one week at least, Aaron Rodgers missed Davante Adams a lot more than Adams missed Rodgers. Rodgers’ day began with rookie Christian Watson dropping what should have been an 80-yard touchdown that landed right in — and through — his breadbasket. It only got worse from there, as the future Hall of Famer finished with 195 yards, zero TD, and two turnovers. Rodgers’ failed attempt to block former teammate Za’Darius Smith pretty well summed up his no-good, very-bad Week 1.
Tight End Positional Overview: Strategy, Tiers, Targets & Fades (2022 Fantasy Football)
Ah, tight end, the ugly stepchild of the fantasy football family. Unless we’re talking about the truly elite pass-catchers at the position, tight end is often an afterthought in the typical fantasy draft. It’s the position you fill after you’ve drafted all your starting running backs and wide receivers, and often after you’ve taken your quarterback, too. Only team defense and kicker have lower standing. But maybe we should give the tight end position more credit.

Cleveland Browns signing QB Josh Rosen to 1-year deal
The Cleveland Browns are signing former first-round pick Josh Rosen to a one-year deal, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Thursday. Rosen, the No. 10 pick in the 2018 draft, last played for the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, completing 2 of 11 passes with two interceptions. The Browns, who face the possibility that starter Deshaun Watson could be suspended under the NFL’s personal conduct policy, are looking to enter training camp with four quarterbacks.
Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Esteury Ruiz, Max Meyer, Kyle Finnegan (2022)
The All-Star break is nearly here, which means we’re well into the second half of the fantasy baseball campaign. This is the time of year when more casual fantasy managers — and those far out of contention — begin to disengage and turn their minds to other things, like fantasy football. But there is still plenty of work to do for those of us who are intent on taking home fantasy baseball championships.
Which 2021 Duds Will Become 2022 Studs? (2022 Fantasy Football)
Last week, I gave you six players who were great last year but could disappoint this season. I’m someone who likes to always look on the bright side of life, so that was the hard part. This article is the easy part. Everyone has their favorite sleepers, breakouts, and comeback stories, and these are some of mine. As with the bust candidates, we’re looking for players whose circumstances have shifted — but this time in a positive direction.
Which 2021 Studs Will Become 2022 Duds? (2022 Fantasy Football)
Imagine this. You’re on the clock in your fantasy draft and glancing over the list of available players. You’ve done your research and created your own set of rankings, but at the last second, you decide to sort by last season’s fantasy points. You notice that there’s one guy on the board who scored over 20 more fantasy points than anyone else who’s left. You impulsively click the “draft” button next to his name.
Guide to Streaming Quarterbacks (2022 Fantasy Football)
While Superflex and two-quarterback leagues have become more prevalent in recent years, the most popular option for redraft leagues remains the tried-and-true single-QB format. In these leagues, avoiding early-round QBs and streaming the position is a viable strategy and often an optimal one. Assuming you play in a 10 or 12-team single-QB league, there will be interesting QBs available on the waiver wire all season long. Therefore, you should never struggle to find an available streaming option.
Dynasty Veteran Sleepers: Wide Receivers (2022 Fantasy Football)
They say there is no offseason in dynasty leagues, and for the most part, that’s true. But there are definitely ebbs and flows. Weeks 1-17 are a mad dash, the NFL playoffs are must-see TV, free agency, and the NFL draft shakes up dynasty player values, and then we get the pure rush of our rookie drafts. And if there is any offseason, this little pocket of time between rookie drafts (which are now over in most leagues) and when training camp heats up in late July is a much-needed reprieve.
Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Ha-Seong Kim, Chris Paddack, Nolan Gorman (2022)
It feels like just yesterday we were fretting over the MLB lockout, but lo and behold, the calendar is about to flip to May. We now have nearly a month’s worth of games to work with, meaning some of that early-season statistical noise is getting stickier and becoming more actionable. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still far too early to completely panic on any of your studs who are off to slow starts.
Dynasty SuperFlex Startup Strategy (2022 Fantasy Football)
As a general draft strategy, drafting a “Top 8” QB in the first round, like Justin Herbert, could benefit your roster. Everyone knows that QB is the most crucial position in football, but it took the fantasy game quite a while to reflect that reality. Superflex may not yet be the dominant format for casual players, but it is for the hardcore among us, especially those who play dynasty.
Running Back Roundup: Week 16 (2021 Fantasy Football)
Maybe it’s my advancing age, but man, did this fantasy football season fly by. Here we stand in Week 16, with just two weeks separating us and those much-deserved fantasy championships. This week’s Roundup will be my last one for 2021. Don’t worry, though. I’m not abandoning you altogether. I will still be posting my rankings at FantasyPros for Week 17 and will surely spend plenty of time talking RBs in the weekly recap and weekly preview episodes of the Rest of Season Rankings podcast.
Running Back Roundup: Week 14 (2021 Fantasy Football)
Usually, I feel compelled to start this column with bad injury news because it makes for the most “headline-worthy” takeaways. This week, there are plenty of injuries to discuss, from Elijah Mitchell‘s concussion to Miles Sanders‘ and Kenyan Drake‘s ankle injuries and Damien Harris‘s hamstring tweak.
Running Back Roundup: Week 13 (2021 Fantasy Football)
Each week, there are usually a handful of teams that I don’t include in the Running Back Roundup because there isn’t much new to report or analyze about them. Of course, I’ll inevitably get a question of Twitter saying I forgot to mention such-and-such team, but I don’t mind! It’s often an opportunity to interact with a new follower. This week, though, I am giving you the whole enchilada. All 32 teams. Why?
Running Back Roundup: Week 11 (2021 Fantasy Football)
Week 10 was another big one for backup running backs. AJ Dillon, Rhamondre Stevenson, Darrel Williams, D’Ernest Johnson, Mark Ingram, and Matt Breida — yes, Matt Breida — were all among the position’s top-11 fantasy scorers. None (especially Breida) were drafted as fantasy starters. Let it serve as a reminder that there is no better use for a fantasy bench spot than stashing a high-upside backup running back who is one injury away from immense fantasy value.
Running Back Roundup: Week 6 (2021 Fantasy Football)
Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: It was an injury-plagued week at the running back position. This time, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Saquon Barkley (again) went down. The consensus top-two backs heading into the season, Christian McCaffrey and Dalvin Cook, sat out once more, as did Chris Carson. Meanwhile, Joe Mixon, Darrell Henderson, and Antonio Gibson each played at less than 100 percent health — and gave their fantasy managers some indigestion in the process.
Running Back Roundup: Week 4 (2021 Fantasy Football)
The Week 3 slate was headlined by the unfortunate injury to the number one player in most fantasy drafts, Christian McCaffrey (RB – CAR). It’s always a bummer when we don’t get to see McCaffrey play, even if it only ends up being for a few games. The injury bug also bit the Patriots’ James White (RB – NE), an underrated fantasy contributor, and all-around good guy. However, injuries were far from the only big story at the running back position.
Running Back Roundup: Week 3 (2021 Fantasy Football)
Every year, there are certain backfields that are a constant headache, requiring endless amounts of care and attention. Sometimes these backfields are worth the effort, other times they aren’t. So far this year, the biggest fantasy headaches are the Ravens and 49ers. As someone who is heavily invested in both backfields, I know first hand. We’ve already had to cycle through J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and Raheem Mostert. We’ve had to endure ball security issues from Ty’Son Williams.
Running Back Roundup: Week 2 (2021 Fantasy Football)
Week 1 of the NFL season is always full of surprises, especially at the running back position, but this year’s opening week was more surprising than most. If you had Zack Moss and Trey Sermon being inactive on your bingo card, you should go buy some lottery tickets immediately.
Running Back Roundup: Week 1 (2021 Fantasy Football)
Welcome one and all to the inaugural Running Back Roundup for the 2021 fantasy football season! I’m happy to report that I’ll be your guide throughout the year as we attempt to navigate fantasy football’s most critical — and fickle — position. I handled this topic for FantasyPros back in 2017 and 2018, and also cut my teeth sorting through closer situations, the fantasy baseball equivalent of running backs.
Fantasy Baseball Closer Report: Week 14 (2021)
It’s officially July, which means summer is in full swing, the fantasy baseball season is halfway over, and it’s time to start thinking about who might get moved ahead of the July 30 trade deadline. The trade deadline has particular importance for closers, whose fantasy value is largely a byproduct of the opportunity to pick up saves. That has led to a fairly seismic shakeup in this week’s closer rankings.
Fantasy Baseball Closer Report: Week 11 (2021)
It may seem controversial that I am moving Raisel Iglesias ahead of Alex Reyes in this week’s closer rankings. After all, Reyes has 16 saves and a 0.90 ERA, while Iglesias has only 10 saves and a 3.75 ERA. But the surface stats only tell us so much. Reyes continues to flirt with disaster by walking nearly a batter per inning. He has issued at least one free pass in each of his last six appearances and 11 of his last 13 outings going back to May 8.
Fantasy Baseball Closer Report: Week 10 (2021)
It’s fair to call J.P. Feyereisen the leading candidate for saves in Tampa right now. I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for wordplay. This week’s Closer Report will feature a discussion of Rays reliever J.P. Feyereisen, a name I can’t even mention without immediately contemplating “fire” and “ice” puns. At first, my mind went towards Game of Thrones, but that’s A Song of Ice and Fire. His name isn’t J.P. Eisenfeyer so that just won’t do.
Fantasy Baseball Closer Report: Week 7 (2021)
I usually begin this column each week by talking about the closer situations that are in flux, but let’s take a quick moment to appreciate the best closers in the game today. Josh Hader currently sports a 0.61 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and 15.95 K/9 rate, and yet I had to move him out of the top spot because of how absurdly good Aroldis Chapman has been.
Fantasy Baseball Closer Report: Week 6 (2021)
Edwin Diaz is dropping several spots in the closer rankings out of an abundance of caution. Two of the big early surprises in the closer world were that San Francisco manager Gabe Kapler and Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash had each settled on a single closer. Both skippers are notorious closer-by-committee aficionados. It turns out that the sun does still set in the west, what goes up still must come down, and the Giants and Rays still rotate relievers in the ninth inning.
Fantasy Baseball Closer Report: Week 5 (2021)
As we approach the end of April, closer situations across the MLB seem to be stabilizing more than expected. Famous last words, right? But seriously — this week, 24 of the 30 teams have one guy who I feel comfortable labeling as the team’s main closer, and several of the remaining committee situations appear to be relatively straightforward and appealing for fantasy purposes.
Fantasy Baseball Closer Report: Week 2
While millions of children spent last Sunday hunting for Easter eggs, here at the Closer Report, we’re in the business of hunting for saves. In fact, now that I think of it, picking up potential closers is a lot like biting into a Cadbury Cream Egg; it could end up being delicious — or it could just give you a massive stomach ache.
Limbaugh on the NBA: "Call it the TBA, the Thug Basketball Association ... They're going in to watch the Crips and the Bloods"

Limbaugh on torture of Iraqis: U.S. guards were "having a good time," "blow[ing] some steam off"
Hours before President George W. Bush announced plans to address the Arab world to condemn the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. military personnel at the Abu Ghraib prison, Rush Limbaugh justified the U.S. guards' mistreatment of the Iraqis, stating that they were just “having a good time,” and that their actions served as an “emotional release.” As reported by Wonkette.com, Limbaugh's comments can be found on his website.
Limbaugh: AIDS "hasn't made that jump to the heterosexual community"
Responding on June 9 to accusations by what he deemed “mainstream journalist Leftists” that former President Ronald Reagan “didn't do enough to stop AIDS ... so he's anti-gay,” radio host Rush Limbaugh branded as “propaganda” the claim by “AIDS activists” in the 1980s that it was “only a matter of time before it [AIDS] spreads to the heterosexual community.” Limbaugh also claimed that AIDS “hasn't made that jump to the heterosexual community” -- “other than in Africa [where] ...
Limbaugh on Jesse Jackson: Kerry camp got "a chocolate chip"
On the day Reverend Jesse Jackson joined the Kerry-Edwards '04 campaign, radio host Rush Limbaugh said the “Kerry campaign has finally gotten a chocolate chip.” From the September 29 edition of The Rush Limbaugh Show: LIMBAUGH: The -- the Kerry campaign has finally gotten a chocolate chip. The Kerry campaign has announced that civil rights activist, the Reverend Jackson, has joined the campaign on Wednesday -- that's today, the day before the debate. Jesse Jackson has joined the Kerry campaign.
Who is Randall Terry?
Christian activist Randall Terry has reappeared in the news in recent days as the spokesman for the parents of Terri Schiavo. Terry, founder of the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue and the Society for Truth and Justice, appeared on Fox News at least four times in the past four days -- on the March 18 edition of Hannity & Colmes, and during live coverage of the Schiavo case on March 20 and March 21.
Conservative Media Baselessly Invoke Solyndra To Smear Obama Budget
Conservative media revived their Solyndra scandal-mongering to attack the proposed clean energy funding in President Obama's budget. But contrary to their claims, Solyndra did not receive the clean energy tax credits included in the President's budget, and the budget doesn't increase funding for the largely successful loan guarantee program that did support Solyndra.
NY Times Public Editor Critiques, But Largely Defends Misleading EPA Story
xADVANCED SEARCH Keyword(s) Date Range ››› The New York Times' public editor Margaret Sullivan has now weighed in on The Times' misleading article advancing baseless industry allegations that the EPA illegally lobbied on behalf of clean water protections. But while Sullivan recognized that the article has some significant problems, she nonetheless defended it as a "solid story" overall.
