ASP.NET Core SignalR production hosting and scaling
01/17/2020 5 minutes to read +5 In this article By Andrew Stanton-Nurse, Brady Gaster, and Tom Dykstra, This article explains hosting and scaling considerations for high-traffic apps that use ASP.NET Core SignalR. Sticky Sessions SignalR requires that all HTTP requests for a specific connection be handled by the same server process. When SignalR is running on a server farm (multiple servers), "sticky sessions" must be used. "Sticky sessions" are also called session affinity by some load balancers.

Important For production use, a Redis backplane is recommended only when it runs in the same data center as the SignalR app. Otherwise, network latency degrades performance.
Logging and diagnostics in ASP.NET Core SignalR
02/27/2019 7 minutes to read Contributors In this article By Andrew Stanton-Nurse This article provides guidance for gathering diagnostics from your ASP.NET Core SignalR app to help troubleshoot issues. Server-side logging Warning Server-side logs may contain sensitive information from your app. Never post raw logs from production apps to public forums like GitHub. Since SignalR is part of ASP.NET Core, it uses the ASP.NET Core logging system.
ASP.NET SignalR 2.4.0 Preview 2
We’ve just released the second preview of the upcoming 2.4.0 release of ASP.NET SignalR. As we mentioned in our previous blog post on the future of ASP.NET SignalR we are releasing a minor update to ASP.NET SignalR (the version of SignalR for System.Web and/or OWIN-based applications) that includes, support for the Azure SignalR Service, as well as some bug fixes and minor features.
Announcing ASP.NET SignalR 2.4.0 Preview 1
We recently released the first preview of the upcoming 2.4.0 release of ASP.NET SignalR. As we mentioned in our previous blog post on the future of ASP.NET SignalR we are releasing a new minor update to ASP.NET SignalR (the version of SignalR for System.Web and/or OWIN-based applications) that includes, support for the Azure SignalR Service, as well as some bug fixes and minor features.
The future of ASP.NET SignalR
In ASP.NET Core 2.1, we brought SignalR into the ASP.NET Core family. Many of our users have asked what this means for the previous version of SignalR: ASP.NET SignalR. As a reminder, ASP.NET SignalR is represented by the NuGet package and runs on applications using .NET Framework and System.Web. ASP.NET Core SignalR is part of the ASP.NET Core platform which runs on both .NET Core and .NET Framework and uses the NuGet package . This year, we’re planning to release version 2.4.0 of ASP.NET SignalR.
Security considerations in ASP.NET Core SignalR
SignalR provides a number of security protections by default. It's important to understand how to configure these protections. Cross-origin resource sharing (CORS) can be used to allow cross-origin SignalR connections in the browser. If your JavaScript code is hosted on a different domain name from your SignalR app, you have to enable the ASP.NET Core CORS middleware in order to allow the connection. In general, allow cross-origin requests only from domains you control.
Authentication and authorization in ASP.NET Core SignalR
View or download sample code (how to download) SignalR can be used with ASP.NET Core Authentication to associate a user with each connection. In a hub, authentication data can be accessed from the property. Authentication allows the hub to call methods on all connections associated with a user (See Manage users and groups in SignalR for more information). Multiple connections may be associated with a single user.
WebSockets support in ASP.NET Core
This article explains how to get started with WebSockets in ASP.NET Core. WebSocket (RFC 6455) is a protocol that enables two-way persistent communication channels over TCP connections. It's used in apps that benefit from fast, real-time communication, such as chat, dashboard, and game apps. View or download sample code (how to download). See the Next steps section for more information. Use WebSockets to work directly with a socket connection.
Azure Key Vault configuration provider in ASP.NET Core
This document explains how to use the Microsoft Azure Key Vault configuration provider to load application configuration values from Azure Key Vault secrets. Azure Key Vault is a cloud-based service that helps you safeguard cryptographic keys and secrets used by apps and services. Common scenarios include controlling access to sensitive configuration data and meeting the requirement for FIPS 140-2 Level 2 validated Hardware Security Modules (HSM's) when storing configuration data.
