Residents watched in fascination as contractors started using a huge high-reach demolition machine to pull apart one of two "eyesore" tower blocks in Huddersfield. Demolition experts with Metropolitan Demolition began work earlier this week on the demolition of two high-rise tower blocks at Berry Brow - Bishops Court and Holme Park Court. Both are 17-storeys high. The demolition of each block is expected to take around five weeks, Kirklees Council said.

Huddersfield and Slaithwaite stations shut for 16 days - with more to come
Train passengers are being warned of major disruption to services, with both Huddersfield and Slaithwaite stations closed for 16 days from today, Saturday September 19. More than £110,000 in cash was seized as police searched premises in Sheffield and Doncaster on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 4 and 5. Tragedy as shop manager, 47, found dead at her home
A woman who was found unresponsive at home died from the toxic effects of cocaine and alcohol, a coroner has concluded. Leeds-born Nicola Jayne Fletcher, 47, was found at her home address in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, on the morning of November 2 last year. Attempts were made to revive her but her life could not be saved. In a Record of Inquest, assistant coroner Gillian Kane concluded that Ms Fletcher's death was alcohol and drug-related.

A man has been banned from a pub after he pushed the landlady in the chest and left two others with damaged specs. Self-employed plasterer Luke Stafford, 40, pushed the landlady at the Black Horse pub in Thornton, Bradford, on January 25 last year. Stafford also approached a man in the pub, punched him in the face and called him a "c***." The victim was left with a bruised eye and broken spectacles.

'Scum' Huddersfield killer's extremely painful death behind bars aged 48
A man who served just over six years for his part in a "ferocious and unprovoked" Huddersfield killing has died in prison after suffering from colon cancer. Hardened criminal Anthony Driver was given a 13-year sentence for manslaughter in May 2013 and was released on Christmas Eve 2019 after serving just over six years. Driver, of Marsden, Huddersfield, killed Craig Hepburn, 19, in an unprovoked attack in the village in 2012.

Tributes have been paid to a Yorkshire couple following their deaths. Andy and Helen Howarth, of Cleckheaton, were known for setting up legal services firm Howarths and later establishing Howarths Foundation, a charity that helps homeless people into work across Kirklees and Leeds. Two seriously hurt after West Yorkshire reservoir crash
Two drivers were seriously hurt in a crash near a West Yorkshire reservoir. The crash involved a blue Ford Fiesta and a white Ford Ka and happened on Otley Road near Graincliffe Reservoir, Bingley, Bradford. West Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision which happened at about 7.20am on Friday, June 5. Police said both drivers were taken to hospital with serious injuries. These were found not to be life-threatening.

Injured man found in Huddersfield village as air ambulance scrambled
A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault following the discovery of an injured man in a Huddersfield village. West Yorkshire Police officers responded to a "concern for safety" report in relation to a man in Mill Moor Road, Meltham, just after 10pm last night. Shocked residents reported seeing an air ambulance as well as a large police presence. The injured man was taken to hospital. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening. A man, 45, was later arrested on suspicion of assault.
