Drivers risk lives by speeding through West Yorkshire and every week mobile speed cameras are put in place to deter speeding and to catch bad drivers. Mobile speed cameras have been set up by the West Yorkshire Police Camera Enforcement Unit on the behalf of the West Yorkshire Camera Partnership. They have been put in place to try to reduce speeding. Cameras are placed in areas which the police believe collisions are likely to take place in.
Piles of cash found as suspected illegal gambling dens shut down
Piles of cash and a large amount of gold were seized during raids on suspected illegal gambling venues. More than £110,000 in cash was seized as police searched premises in Sheffield and Doncaster on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 4 and 5. South Yorkshire Police said 16 illegal betting terminals were discovered inside venues on London Road, Sheffield, and Silver Street, Doncaster, as well as large amounts of cash and gold in the form of bars, coins and jewellery.

Animal feed 'deliberately' set alight as fire rips through Yorkshire fields
Police are appealing for information after a suspected arson attack in which hay bales were set on fire. Several hay bales were set ablaze in fields close to Milford Road, South Milford, North Yorkshire, during the early evening of Friday July 31. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished, preventing further damage and reducing the risk of the fire spreading to surrounding land.

Kenyan-born Islam expert named new Bishop of Leeds
The new Bishop of Leeds will be the Rt Revd Dr Toby Howarth, it has been announced. Bishop Toby will be the second Bishop of Leeds - which also covers Huddersfield and Bradford - following the retirement of the Rt Revd Nick Baines in November 2025. Tragedy as shop manager, 47, found dead at her home
A woman who was found unresponsive at home died from the toxic effects of cocaine and alcohol, a coroner has concluded. Leeds-born Nicola Jayne Fletcher, 47, was found at her home address in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, on the morning of November 2 last year. Attempts were made to revive her but her life could not be saved. In a Record of Inquest, assistant coroner Gillian Kane concluded that Ms Fletcher's death was alcohol and drug-related.

A man who served just over six years for his part in a "ferocious and unprovoked" Huddersfield killing has died in prison after suffering from colon cancer. Hardened criminal Anthony Driver was given a 13-year sentence for manslaughter in May 2013 and was released on Christmas Eve 2019 after serving just over six years. Two seriously hurt after West Yorkshire reservoir crash
Two drivers were seriously hurt in a crash near a West Yorkshire reservoir. The crash involved a blue Ford Fiesta and a white Ford Ka and happened on Otley Road near Graincliffe Reservoir, Bingley, Bradford. Fire service update on cause of massive Huddersfield blaze after homes evacuated
A huge fire that led to homes being evacuated in Huddersfield has been "recorded as accidental," the fire service said. A number of homes were evacuated by West Yorkshire Police on Sunday lunchtime due to a fierce blaze at an industrial unit building on Barr Street, just off Leeds Road, in the Bradley Mills area. At its height, 15 fire appliances and two aerial units were at the scene tackling the flames. The fire sent black smoke billowing into the sky.
