Andrew M. Seaman’s Biography

I’m a journalist at Thomson Reuters’s headquarters in New York City. I joined Reuters after working at its Washington bureau, where I covered the Affordable Care Act and the White House, as the 2011 Kaiser Media Fellow.

I’m a 2011 graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where I was named “Student of the Year,” which is awarded to “a student whose energy and talent make him or her an example of a superior Columbia Journalism graduate.”

As a Toni Stabile Fellow, my studies focused on investigative reporting at Columbia’s center for investigative journalism, where I improved my international and business reporting skills through the program.

I’m also a 2010 graduate of Wilkes University’s communication studies program, where I graduated with honors and was named a Tom Bigler Scholar for exemplifying the highest ethical standards in journalism.

I’ve also earned several other awards during my undergraduate career, including the 2009 Robert D.G. Lewis First Amendment Award and the 2009 Arthur H. Barlow National Student Journalist of the Year Award.

My most substantial print experience comes from my three years as a contract writer for USA TODAY, the nation’s largest newspaper.

In addition to my freelance work, I served as a USA TODAY national desk intern in 2008 and a Washington bureau intern in 2009. I also spent the summer of 2007 as an intern for the national desk of The Washington Times while completing the Institute on Political Journalism at Georgetown University.

Altogether, I’ve covered some of the biggest stories of the past five years. My clips include coverage of President Barack Obama, the U.S. Congress, visits by foreign heads of state, marches on Washington, federal legislation, national trends, earmarks, NASA, investigative articles and breaking news.

I’ve also served on the national board of directors for the Society of Professional Journalists, the largest broad based organization for journalists in the U.S.

I currently sit on SPJ’s Generation J committee and the Association of Health Care Journalists’ membership committee.
