REPS ANDY HARRIS, KEITH SELF, SEN RICK SCOTT: Fix FISA. Don’t spy on us
Video NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! America’s founding generation did not take up arms merely over unreasonable taxation. They understood ceding their rights to the government for promise of security was a bad deal. They believed risking death to live free was better than subsisting under tyranny. They fought back against unchecked tyranny across an ocean. The crown planted spies in their taverns, rifled through their papers without cause and intercepted their private correspondence.

President Trump Is Right: It’s Time to Defund NPR and PBS
For years, American taxpayers have been asked to subsidize National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), which spread radical, left-wing propaganda disguised as “news.” As a Member of Congress, I have fought adamantly for a government that spends less of your hard-earned money, tells you the truth, and doesn't incentivize the polluting of our culture with radical leftist ideology.

House Freedom Caucus Chair: Trump Protecting Critical Medical Research | Opinion
Share Last year, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) paid the University of California more than a million dollars to study whether specialized cellular immunotherapies can extend the lives of cancer patients who are otherwise out of options. To date, cellular immunotherapy has revolutionized cancer treatment. Naturally, taxpayers across the country would think allocating a million dollars to study a potential cure for cancer is well within reason. At least that is what they think.
Andy Harris says Cheney is ‘dead wrong’ to flip her opposition against Kamala Harris
Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) argued former Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney is “dead wrong” to support Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the election, a flip from when she campaigned against her and then-presidential candidate Joe Biden in 2020. Cheney joined the vice president during a recent campaign stop in Pennsylvania, during which Kamala Harris said she wanted to move past “the last decade” of former President Donald Trump.
House Freedom Caucus picks Andy Harris to replace Good as chairman
The House Freedom Caucus has elected Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) as its new chairman to replace Rep. Bob Good (R-VA), who will leave office early next year after losing his primary election earlier this year. Caucus members voted to elect Harris in a voice vote on Tuesday evening, a lawmaker confirmed to the Washington Examiner. The vote comes after Good rescinded his chairmanship last week, telling members he would allow someone new to take over once the board accepted his resignation.
SNAP to it, Congress - we need to address the obesity crisis now
The United States has witnessed historic and escalating rates of obesity among adults in recent decades. As of 2020, official government statistics indicate that obesity inflicts 42 percent of Americans, including one in five children. Obesity disproportionately affects low-income populations, who often rely on federal programs for assistance. Congress can combat the obesity epidemic by reforming federal programs, especially the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Homecoming at Last!
Andy Harris, Editor-in-Chief Homecoming season has arrived and the world-renown SpelHouse homecoming has returned! After three long years, homecoming has come back to the Atlanta University Center (AUC). The Covid-19 pandemic put a screeching halt to the lives and routines of many worldwide and that included the traditions and celebrations of HBCU pride. While the virus has not gone away, it is more contained than it was two years ago and life has returned to the AUC.
Youth pilgrimage to Holy Island
By Andy Harris, Diocesan Leader of Youth Mission and Ministry On Saturday 9 July young people set off from around Durham Diocese in two coaches heading for Holy Island. The weather was glorious, just as it had been 4 years ago. As we paused at the start of the causeway, Sarah Bishop of Jarrow helped us all to think about how this short pilgrimage was different from a trip or a holiday, and we all said a short prayer of preparation together.

Saints dig deep for victory in the Garden City.
Thanks to Eugene for breaking his match report virginity! St Albans 3rd team looked dishevelled. Only 13 players right up until kick-off when two latecomers finally completed the team. Mis-matched socks and shorts and an array of differently coloured drill tops. But you could tell they were up for it, their faces shone, happy; like council estate kids throwing dog faeces at passing motorists, happy.
Stevenage come out on top in the first round of the cup.
Words kindly provided by Chris Jones. The game started hard at a ferocious intensity with strong carries and tackling from each side. Both teams were keen to get the upper hand and were slightly over keen at breakdowns and tackles with a number of infringements at the rucks, questionable handling leading to lots of scrums, and disjointed play.

The Elite Perfomer: Limitless
Extraordinary success requires effort and focus. To be competent with the requirements means there can be no low-level thinking. Many of us are passionate and have the drive, yet also create our own mental roadblocks. These artificial and fictitious barriers get in our way of extraordinary and limitless success. What are the main reasons or causes of these mental walls and how do we break them down?

Atlanta Braves Hot Stove Report: November 12, 2018
Welcome to the Hot Stove Report, your semi-regular capsule of all of the off-season news, rumors, transactions, and winter league action for the Atlanta Braves. Check in with us every Monday through the start of spring training as we sift though everything Braves. How do you know that Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. loves playing baseball? Well, you can just watch him play and it becomes readily apparent. Or you could listen to him talk about it.
Team Review 2018: Rome Braves
Rome once again stood out as an important incubator of young talent. What was unusual about this season however is the amount of mid-season turnover the club experienced as the team was even more aggressive this season with promotions than in prior ones. That created an unusual situation where the team that took the field in the SAL South Division playoffs was largely different than the star-studded roster that won the first-half division title and clinched a postseason berth.
Get To Know a Call-Up: Bryse Wilson
In a surprise move, the Braves have pushed back Kevin Gausman‘s planned start tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates and have selected the contract of right-hander Bryse Wilson to make his major league debut Wilson was the Braves’ 4th-round draft pick in 2016 out of Orange High School in Hillsborough, NC and was lured from a strong commitment to the Tar Heels with a $1.2 million signing bonus, well above slot.
Mike Foltynewicz is a Stud Now
Mike Foltynewicz is having an exciting season. Sporting a 2.86 ERA buoyed by a 3.53 FIP, it’s by far the best effort of his career. Foltynewicz was part of the first wave of starting pitching acquired in the Braves’ rebuild. The early returns from this group of pitchers were not good, as fans watched hurlers like Foltynewicz, Matt Wisler, and Aaron Blair struggle to establish themselves.
Get To Know a Call-Up: Touki Toussaint
Dany Gilbert Kiti “Touki” Toussaint was a 1st-round pick (16th overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2014. Toussaint was part of an unusual trade on June 20, 2015 when the Diamondbacks sent Toussaint and veteran pitcher Bronson Arroyo to Atlanta for utility infielder Phil Gosselin. Arroyo was injured and not expected to play at all in 2015, so essentially the trade was the equivalent of the Braves paying Arizona the $10.1 million remaining on Arroyo’s contract for the rights to Toussaint.
No Upgrade Needed: Why Johan Camargo Deserves Better
It’s fair to say Johan Camargo‘s debut a season ago was one of the more surprising debuts in baseball. After failing to reach any higher than #52 in the Atlanta Braves system, it’s understandable that his performance yielded a heavy degree of skepticism. Atlanta Braves General Manager Alex Anthopoulos admitted he wasn’t sold on Camargo’s ability as a starter, as shown by the infamous Jose Bautista experiment.
Mid-Season 2018 Top 30 Braves Prospect Update
The future increasingly has become now with the Braves top-5 ranked farm system as the suddenly competitive big league roster has dipped liberally into it’s prospect reserve. Just since the start of the season, outfielders Ronald Acuna and Dustin Peterson, right-handed pitchers Mike Soroka and Evan Phillips, and left-hander Jesse Biddle have made their major league debuts while right-hander Wes Parsons was added to the 40-man roster but not used.
Braves 2018 Draft Analysis: Day Three
The MLB draft changes rules at round 11. Anyone drafted in this range can get a $125,000 signing bonus without pulling from the team’s draft pool allowance. Any bonus over $125,000 will count against the pool, dollar-for-dollar over the standard $125,000. Top high school prospects that have not been selected by this time will likely not be picked, or will not be expected to sign, and will instead honor their college commitments.
The Continued Re-invention of Kurt Suzuki
Last September, I wrote about Kurt Suzuki’s historical uniqueness. His newfound proclivity for both home runs and being hit by pitches was the result, I theorized, of a more aggressive batting approach. I thought it’d be interesting to see if he has continued that trend in 2018. Suzuki’s slash-line stats this year (.272/.331/.470) aren’t quite as good as last year (.283/.351/.536), but that’s to be expected. Even a change in approach was unlikely to yield 19 HRs in 309 plate appearances.
Braves Sunday Farm Report, 6/3/2018
Is it still Sunday? Yes it is! Welcome to the Braves Farm Report, where we will take a look at the Braves farm system and look at trends and players that seem interesting, and give first hand accounts of what we’re seeing down on the farm. This week, Andy Harris posted his review of the performances of the OFR Top 30 Prospects. Check them out! This week I was privileged to have the opportunity to go see the Rome Braves twice, on Tuesday, May 29 and Friday, June 1.
The Evolution of Johan Camargo
The Atlanta Braves signed Johan Camargo as an international amateur free agent from Panama in 2010. He came up through the organization primarily as a glove-first infielder who could cover second base, shortstop and third base aided by his cannon-like arm. However, from the time he began playing full-season ball in 2014 through his time in Mississippi in 2016, he never even reached the level of a league-average hitter.
Learning on the Fly: Sabermetrics 101 - FIP
How should we evalualue a Pitcher? It’s that time of year, again; your annual dose of my Sabermetric musings. The last two Sabermetric 101’s dealt in the offensive category. This time, I think a bit of pitching value needs to be addressed. That being said, I thought I’d start with a metric we hear all the time from Sabermetricians when valuing a pitcher, and one you don’t hear as often. I wanted to hit on FIP, xFIP, and SIERA.
ICYMI: Atlanta Braves Weekly Blog Recap - Outfield Fly Rule
We’re starting a new feature here today called ICYMI: Atlanta Braves Weekly Blog Recap. The Bitcoin of the Braves: Prospects to Keep Your Eye On - Outfield Fly Rule
Braves prospects. Anyone who’s anyone has put out pieces detailing the amount of high quality pieces on the farm. From top 100 lists to top 10 lists, everyone has been gobbling up everything they can on the top end of the Braves system. Not me. Instead, I’ve been mulling over the prospects on the farm that people haven’t been mentioning, and I’ve found a few that keep catching my eye.
Kurt Suzuki is Historically Unique - Outfield Fly Rule
Atlanta re-signed C Kurt Suzuki to a one year, $3.5M extension over the weekend. It will keep the backup catcher in uniform for the 2018 season, providing the team with some positional certainty while giving Suzuki a $2M raise. After picking up Tyler Flowers’ option in the offseason, Atlanta won’t have to worry about the catcher position during the offseason. A year ago, this seemed unlikely, because Kurt Suzuki was coming off a stretch of really bad seasons.

Pondering Future Atlanta Braves Roster Moves - Outfield Fly Rule
With the Atlanta Braves’ 2017 season entering the final stretch, many fans have turned their attentions to the upcoming offseason. Much has been written about a potential impending roster crunch for the Braves, as they have many players eligible for the Rule 5 Draft in December, and many players that other teams would be willing to take a flier on.
My Favorite Don Baylor Story - Outfield Fly Rule
The Austin American-Statesman announced today that long-time baseball player, coach, and manager Don Baylor passed away this morning at the age of 68. Baylor succumbed after a long battle with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer. We at Outfield Fly Rule pass along our condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of Mr. Baylor. Don Baylor may be best known to most Braves fans as one-time hitting coach for the team in 1999, between his managerial stints for the Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs.
Learning on the Fly: Sabermetrics 101 - wRC+ and RE24
Learning on the Fly: Sabermetrics 101 – wRC+ and RE24 The Value of Creation and Expectancy After an admittedly long sabbatical from Outfield Fly Rule, I realized how much I missed learning about (and sharing) what the more popular advanced metrics mean. Today, I want to look at wRC+ and RE24. Both are offensive based metrics that I think give a better picture of how much overall value a player provides with a bat in his hands.
The 2017 Danville Braves - Outfield Fly Rule
June is the first month of play for the Braves’ three short-season league teams in the Dominican Summer League, the Gulf Coast League, and the Danville Braves of the Appalachian League. The DSL started play earlier in the month on June 3, the Danville Braves had a rain-delayed opener on Friday, June 23, and the GCL opened up play on June 26.
"By George, We've Got It!" Not. Looking back at the '82 blockbuster that didn't make the Mets contenders
HE WAS AN ALL-STAR, a perennial MVP candidate and he was available. Thirty-five years ago this month, the New York Mets made what was then the biggest -- and costliest -- acquisition in their history: left fielder George Foster, a man with such impressive power that at his introductory press conference he audaciously warned La Guardia Airport jet traffic not to fly too close to Shea Stadium when he was up.
