A win for Colorado's public lands and the communities that depend on them
I am writing today, inspired and elated by the recent passing of the Colorado Public Lands Resolution through the state House and Senate floor! I would also like to thank Sen. Dylan Roberts, Sen. Judy Amabile, Rep. Meghan Lukens, Rep. Elizabeth Velasco and Rep. Katie Stewart for sponsoring this timely and critically important resolution. On the Western Slope, our community is deeply reliant on access to the public lands that surround us.
Iowa Wrestling Bracket Reactions | 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships Original
The Brands twins were hard-charging sophomores in 1990 when they pushed their way onto college wrestling’s biggest stage — Terry at 126 pounds and Tom at 134. One night, they reached the NCAA finals. The next, they finished the job — both winning national titles. It became a defining moment for Iowa wrestling, and the start of a streak that has stretched across generations. The year before, the Hawkeyes had been shut out of the NCAA finals for the first time since 1974.
What To Watch For At The NAIA Championships Original
The NAIA Championships kick off Thursday just outside Wichita, where Grand View is chasing its 14th title in 15 years and the first with Grant Henderson leading the Vikings. On paper, Grand View is favored yet again with Life University, Southeastern, Oklahoma City and Doane expected to be near the top of the team standings Saturday night when the three-day tournament concludes.
Wrestling Legend Bobby Douglas Passes Away At 83 Original
Legendary former Iowa State and Arizona State coach Bobby Douglas passed away Monday at the age of 83. Douglas was a two-time Olympian and two-time World medalist before he embarked on a coaching career highlighted by more than 400 dual wins and the tutelage of 13 NCAA champions. He guided Arizona State to the 1988 NCAA title before taking over at Iowa State in 1992.
Five NAIA Storylines To Follow At The NWCA National Duals
Grant Henderson is coming up on the 100-day mark in his new role as the leader of NAIA wrestling’s most dominant program, and there’s one thing that continues to surprise him most about being the Grand View head coach. “Just how (former Grand View coach Nick) Mitchell got anything done,” Henderson said. “You’re just so busy with day-to-day things. You’ve got guys coming into your office, of course. You’ve got conversations, phone calls and meetings, and your day gets away from you.
California Baptist Dropping Wrestling, Two Other Programs

In a release from the school, California Baptist vice president for athletics Micah Parker said: “We have closely monitored the shifting landscape of intercollegiate athletics that has affected institutions across the nation.
Iowa Wrestling Lands Commitments From Five Top Recruits

Three of the top wrestlers in the Class of 2027 and two more in the 2028 class announced their commitments to the Hawkeyes. The group includes: — Fifth-ranked 138-pounder Joe Bachmann. Oct 7, 2025 by Andy Hamilton Penn State locked down one of the nation’s most-coveted lightweights, landing a commitment from standout in-state junior Landon Sidun. Gable Steveson Selected To All-Quarter Century Team At 285 Pounds
Trevor Brandvold remembers the nerves he felt that day in Wisconsin when he toed the line for a training camp simulation match against the 15-year-old phenom. Brandvold was a couple years out of college at the time and serving as a coach for the USA Wrestling Cadet World Team when he prepared to battle Gable Steveson. “That was the most nervous I had been to wrestle a match since the NCAA semifinals a couple years before that,” Brandvold said.
All-Quarter Century NCAA Wrestling Team: Heavyweight Finalists
College wrestling’s biggest weight class has produced some of the sport’s biggest stars during the past 25 years. With high-scoring Tommy Rowlands and heavy-handed Steve Mocco ushering in the quarter century and Gable Steveson leading a slew of Hodge Trophy-winning heavyweights in recent years, there’s been no shortage of big guys generating big headlines since 2001.
Cael Sanderson Selected To All-Quarter Century Team At 197 Pounds
Survey a few of those who had an up-close look at history and ask what it was like to train alongside Cael Sanderson in the Iowa State practice room or to compete against him during his 159-0 march to college wrestling immortality and you’ll hear a wide-ranging list of superlatives. What stood out most about Cael at the peak of his powers with the Cyclones? For Mark Munoz, it was the overwhelming hand-fighting skills that set up Sanderson’s arsenal of attacks.
All-Quarter Century NCAA Wrestling Team: 197-Pound Finalists
By the time we get to the finish line with the Flowrestling All-Quarter Century Team presented by Defense Soap, roughly 60 percent of the finalists will be wrestlers who finished their college wrestling careers after 2013. Maybe that’s a product of the American assembly line cranking out top stars at a greater pace since the advent of regional training centers following the 2008 Olympics and the proliferation of clubs across the country. Perhaps recency bias has also factored into the vote.
Ed Ruth Selected To All-Quarter Century Team At 184 Pounds
Quentin Wright won two NCAA titles at Penn State, where he was one of college wrestling’s most electrifying performers. That’s worth mentioning, even though this story isn’t about Wright. It’s about Ed Ruth. And few are more qualified to talk about Ruth’s greatness than Wright, who competed against him in high school, trained alongside him with the Nittany Lions and still remains awestruck by his superhuman feats on the mat.
All-Quarter Century NCAA Wrestling Team: 184-Pound Finalists
The All-Quarter Century project gave us an opportunity to reflect two weeks ago on the superstars who ruled college wrestling’s 165-pound class — a weight that featured 10 multi-time NCAA champions — during the last 25 years. And last week we looked back on the incredible run of unbeatens at 174 pounds, where the national champ navigated through the season without a defeat for seven consecutive years.
Carter Starocci Selected To All-Quarter Century Team At 174 Pounds
In the days after winning his first NCAA title, Carter Starocci went into Cael Sanderson’s office for a conversation that resonated with the Penn State star throughout the remainder of his career with the Nittany Lions. Sanderson told Starocci — then a 174-pound freshman in the spring of 2021 — that his first national championship would be the easiest one he’d win in college.
All-Quarter Century NCAA Wrestling Team: 174-Pound Finalists
Take 10 wrestling enthusiasts and ask them to pare a list of the sport’s top 160 stars from the past 25 years down to 40 and you’re bound to get a wide range of opinions and some spirited debate. That’s what happened with our team as we went through the initial stages of assembling the Flowrestling All-Quarter Century Team. There were several weights where our internal vote turned up an extensive array of names. This was not one of those.
Kyle Dake Selected To Flowrestling All-Quarter Century Team At 165 Pounds
Kyle Dake fully intended to finish his college career at 157 pounds. He felt comfortable at the weight. It’s where he won his third NCAA title, where he completed his first undefeated season, and where he had his most dominant national tournament performance.
All-Quarter Century NCAA Wrestling Team: 165-Pound Finalists
The biggest challenge we faced in assembling the All-Quarter Century Team might have been the dilemma we encountered at 165 pounds. More specifically, it was this: What should we do with Jordan Burroughs and Kyle Dake? The two American wrestling icons won NCAA titles at multiple weights. We debeated whether to put Burroughs into the voting pool at 157, where he won his first national title. We also considered putting Dake into the mix at 157, where he had his most dominant NCAA tournament run.
Jason Nolf Selected To Flowrestling All-Quarter Century Team At 157 Pounds
Jason Nolf remembers the conversations inside the Penn State locker room with trainers discussing the diagnosis and the possibility he’d miss the remainder of his junior season. It was Jan. 28 — 46 days before the start of the 2018 NCAA Championships — and the reigning 157-pound national champion had torn the posterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments in his right knee. “Everybody was like, ‘This isn’t good,’” Nolf said.
All-Quarter Century NCAA Wrestling Team: 157-Pound Finalists
Our introduction of the 149-pound finalists last week included some historical context. We shared some notes on the volatility at the top of the weight and explained how no other class had seen more turnover at the top during the past 25 years. One thing we didn’t mention last week: 157 pounds has been every bit as volatile during the last quarter century. Like 149, there have been 20 different NCAA champions since 2001. And like 149, it’s been a herculean task to win back-to-back titles at 157.
Zain Retherford Selected To Flowrestling Quarter Century Team At 149 Pounds
It was a jarring display of dominance that left Brent Metcalf astonished and intrigued. The two-time NCAA champion trained almost daily with Brandon Sorensen inside the Iowa wrestling room. He knew what type of skills and strength the Hawkeye 149-pounder possessed, which made it all the more stunning when Metcalf watched Penn State’s Zain Retherford score a quick takedown and crank Sorensen over for a first-period fall in the 2017 NCAA semifinals.
All-Quarter Century NCAA Wrestling Team: 149-Pound Finalists
Last week, we highlighted the unusual trend of repeat NCAA champions at 141 pounds. Now we’re on the opposite end of the spectrum. No weight class has seen more turnover at the top during the last quarter century than 149 pounds, where 20 different wrestlers have won national titles since 2001. Only three wrestlers — Brent Metcalf, Zain Retherford and Yianni Diakomihalis — won multiple NCAA titles here during the last 25 seasons.

Yianni Diakomihalis Selected To Flowrestling Quarter Century Team At 141
Yianni Diakomihalis was a freshman phenom rocketing up the national rankings. He won his first 19 matches, knocked off NCAA finalist Bryce Meredith and was well on his way to another statement victory, effectively leading returning All-American Jaydin Eierman 6-3 following a video review stoppage with 30 seconds left in their bout at the South Beach Duals. “I was kind of dominating the match,” Diakomihalis said.
All-Quarter Century NCAA Wrestling Team: 141-Pound Finalists
College wrestling’s most-coveted 141-pound property has primarily been available on a two-year lease in recent years. That spot atop the podium at the NCAA Championships has only been occupied by 10 different 141-pounders since 2008 with seven of them winning back-to-back titles at the weight during that time. First, it was Ohio State’s J Jaggers, who won titles in 2008 and 2009. Then Michigan’s Kellen Russell went back-to-back in 2011 and 2012.
Logan Stieber Selected To Flowrestling Quarter Century Team At 133 Pounds
Tom Ryan vividly remembers the moment. It was a camp in the summer of 2008 at Olentangy Liberty High School just outside Columbus. That’s where the Ohio State coach first started thinking Logan Stieber had the extraordinary tools to one day win four NCAA titles. “I knew (when he was) a sophomore in high school,” Ryan said. “I watched him compete and then did a camp he was at. I got to move around with him and he had the capacity to shoot low and drive hard and fast across the body.
All-Quarter Century NCAA Wrestling Team: 133-Pound Finalists
We knew we’d have to make some difficult decisions when we took on this project. That’s inevitable when you take 160 wrestlers who won NCAA titles during the past 25 years and try to pare the list down to 10. Some of our toughest decisions with the Flowrestling All-Quarter Century Team presented by Defense Soap were simply trying to figure out what to do with the 18 wrestlers who won titles at multiple weights. Do we slow them in where they finished their career?
Spencer Lee Selected To Flowrestling Quarter Century Team At 125 Pounds
Admittedly, Jody Strittmatter might not be the most objective source for this story. But he is uniquely qualified to talk about the top two vote-getters at 125 pounds on the Flowrestling All-Quarter Century Team presented by Defense Soap. Strittmatter wrestled against Fresno State’s Stephen Abas in the 2001 NCAA finals. He also coached Spencer Lee through his formative years with the Young Guns Wrestling Club. Put those Abas and Lee in a time machine and what happens?
All-Quarter Century NCAA Wrestling Team: 125-Pound Finalists
There’s a quote J Robinson often recited during his days as the Minnesota wrestling coach. He said it came from legendary Alabama football coach Bear Bryant. The line: “I can take what other people do and make it work for me.” Which is what we’ve done with a project that begins today. NHL and Major League Baseball Quarter Century teams sparked discussion in recent weeks. So we figured it’s time to do the same with college wrestling.

Kueter is expected to make a full recovery in time to wrestle again for the Hawkeyes next winter. The news was first reported Thursday night by the Des Moines Register. Kueter’s mother, Tina, shared details of her son’s condition Thursday night on Facebook.

Hendrickson captured 30 first-place votes to finish ahead of Penn State five-time NCAA champ Carter Starocci, who received 26 first-place votes.
Penn State Breaks NCAA Tournament Scoring Record For Second Straight Year

One year after toppling a 27-year-old national championship scoring mark, the Nittany Lions rewrote the record with a strong finish at the 2025 NCAA Championships. Penn State went 11-1 and piled up 10 bonus points in contested consolation matches Saturday morning inside the Wells Fargo Center.

Carter Starocci Wins Unprecedented Fifth NCAA Wrestling Title
Carter Starocci has a place all to himself among the pantheon of college wrestling greats. The Penn State star became the sport’s first five-time NCAA champion Saturday night with a 4-3 victory against Northern Iowa’s Parker Keckeisen in a clash of 184-pound titans. Starocci broke a 1-1 third-period tie when he counter-attacked a Keckeisen shot and finished a takedown with 48 seconds remaining. It was vintage Starocci in a high-stakes setting with impenetrable defense and opportunistic offense.
Nebraska Smashes Program Records With Red-Hot Friday At NCAA Championships
There was a moment Friday afternoon when Nebraska surged to the top of the team standings at the NCAA Championships. There was a stretch midway through Friday night’s semifinal round when the Huskers were still hot on Penn State’s heels. College wrestling’s 2025 team title race has seemingly been a foregone conclusion since the Nittany Lions showed up at the starting gate with most of the same characters who shredded the field last March in Kansas City.
