Guidance on DEI for Federal Contractors and Grant Recipients | JD Supra
Many federal contractors and grant recipients are seeking guidance regarding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (“DEI”) in the wake of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals upholding President Trump’s Executive Orders on DEI (“DEI Executive Orders”) while the case proceeds on appeal. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals stayed a District Court preliminary injunction which would have prevented enforcement of the DEI Executive Orders.

United States Supreme Court Sending Chilling Messages For Future Of The Voting Rights Act And Redistricting Challenges
For 57 years, the Voting Rights Act has served as a remarkably effective bulwark against state-level attempts to restrict voting rights, particularly for Black and minority voters. But voting rights are under attack in state legislatures across the country, and the Supreme Court seems to be content allowing these attacks to continue without court challenge. This retreat from defending voting rights began in 2013 with the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision in Shelby County v. Holder.

This retreat from defending voting rights began in 2013 with the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision in Shelby County v. Holder. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority decision which effectively nullified Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. Previously, Section 5 required state and local governments to get “pre-clearance” from the federal government to make sure that proposed changes to voting laws did not negatively impact minorities.

Then I had you and became a father. Suddenly, I fully understood the meaning of those words. Farah Rose, hearing your heartbeat for the first time took my breath away.

A thriving model for urban education
Angel Taveras Much has been said about the challenges of urban education in Rhode Island. In Providence, where significant investments in innovative approaches to education have been made, less than 15 percent of African-American and Latino students meet or exceed the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) standards in math. Less than 22 percent meet or exceed the standard in English.

Angel Taveras: Providence has taken great strides
On the eve of Jorge Elorza’s inauguration as the 38th mayor of Providence, I look back at the past four years with a profound sense of gratitude, both for this unique and historic opportunity to lead our capital city and for those who helped me find success in our accomplishments. I never expected this job to be easy. When I was elected mayor in November 2010 I had great hopes and dreams for Providence. I also knew that challenges awaited.
On the road to school success
On the road to school success One lesson is that education doesn’t need to be a partisan battleground, the authors write. Lagging far behind their international peers. Shamefully low reading and math competency. A staggering achievement gap. We’ve heard the alarming statistics about the trajectory of American students. After 10 years, No Child Left Behind has failed to put American children back on a competitive academic track.
