Angelika Del Carmen- Emeterio’s Biography

Angelika Del Carmen-Emeterio is a Manila-based journalist, editor, author, and press freedom advocate whose work is grounded in investigative storytelling, media literacy, and the protection of independent journalism. Her professional experience spans editorial leadership, international writing, advocacy, and data-driven reporting, reflecting a strong commitment to ethical journalism, democratic discourse, and combating disinformation in the digital age.

She began her career as a freelance journalist and writer, contributing articles on education, politics, public affairs, social issues, and human interest topics to leading Philippine media organizations, including the Philippine Daily Inquirer, The Philippine Star, and Rappler. Her early work demonstrated a strong foundation in research, analytical writing, and feature journalism, establishing her reputation for producing compelling and socially relevant content. She later expanded her professional experience internationally as a senior article writer for a London-based news platform, specializing in sports journalism and global news coverage.

Angelika’s editorial leadership was most notably demonstrated during her tenure as Editor-in-Chief of The QCU Times Publication, the official student publication of Quezon City University. In this capacity, she directed the publication’s editorial operations, supervised content development and production, managed editorial teams, and spearheaded strategic partnerships and sponsorship initiatives to strengthen the publication’s reach and institutional presence. Under her leadership, the publication further developed as a platform for responsible campus journalism, student representation, and critical public discourse.

In addition to her journalistic work, Angelika has been actively engaged in media advocacy and civic initiatives. She currently serves as a Press Freedom Advocate with FactsFirstPH under Rappler, where she contributes to campaigns addressing censorship, disinformation, online harassment, and attacks against journalists. Her work includes documenting press freedom violations, preparing advocacy reports and policy briefs, collaborating with civil society organizations, and promoting media literacy and democratic participation. Through these initiatives, she continues to support efforts aimed at safeguarding independent media and strengthening public trust in factual reporting.

Her advocacy and organizational experience also include contributions to the College Editors Guild of the Philippines and IDEALS Inc., where she participated in alliance-building, communications, and public relations initiatives. She has likewise represented her campus publication in journalism and press freedom programs organized by Rappler and Google News.

Angelika earned her Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship from Quezon City University, where she was recognized as both an academic scholar and an award-winning campus journalist. Among her notable distinctions are becoming the first grand winner of The Philippine Star InveStar: Entrepreneurial Battle, and receiving the PressPlay 2023 Best in In-Depth Journalism Award at De La Salle University, as well as being honored with the J. Amado Araneta Foundation Academic Scholar Award. She also holds certifications from the National Book Development Board as an editor and illustrator, and from the Commission on Human Rights in human rights and paralegal consultation.

Beyond journalism and advocacy, Angelika remains actively involved in literary and professional media organizations. She is affiliated with the FactsFirstPH Coalition, the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA), and continues to contribute as a writer and advocate. Also her published works include a self-published book released through BINHI Publishing House and later distributed internationally through the Libri Platform, where it became part of a top-performing literary series in Southeast Asia.
