Mon Apr 17, 2023, 12:36 PM I was referencing in another post here David Corn’s “American Psychosis” (excellent read, BTW, about the fringe elements of the GOP, going back to the Antebellum era), which I checked out of my library as a “New” book not a month ago. I wanted to recheck the title, so I got on my library’s website and did a search. The book is no longer on the shelf. It’s gone. Disappeared. Never existed. It’s no longer in the catalog.

How are end runs made around the parliamentary process when those in charge get the sense that maybe things are not going their way? Are those in the minority party talked over, misrepresented, discounted, or flat-out ignored? Are citizens who take the time to actually show up to testify on bills treated with respect, and are they fairly heard?

Fri Feb 3, 2023, 11:36 AM Has anyone else noticed just how annoyingly and dangerously bright most car headlights are anymore? I typically drive during low traffic hours (i.e. early or late), but last evening I was out early and I was damned near blinded. I was scary….I could not see anything ahead of me and had to look away at points. Felt like I was being jacklighted. It was made worse by being on narrow, residential streets that have a lot of pedestrians.

Speaking as a teacher I can only surmise this situation was bungled by a jumble of laws and policies that protect students and/or their parents. The school was more focused on the civil rights of the child than the teacher. IMO, what could have been done: advise the local police to come in, to investigate, to perhaps get a search warrant, interview the child and his parents. This is so much beyond an IEP file.

Santos again rejects calls to resign, says all '142,000 voters' would have to ask
He later told ABC News that he meant "142,000 voters who voted for me" would have to ask for him to resign, although according to the New York Board of Elections he received a total of 145,824 votes. Santos claimed "the elevator cut" him off causing the misstatement, but video shows he was able to finish his sentence before the elevator doors closed. Santos followed up by saying he basically meant he would not resign.
