Repairing interrupted questions makes voice agents more accessible
Everyone’s had the experience of pausing mid-sentence during a conversation, trying to conjure a forgotten word. These pauses can be so pronounced that today’s voice assistants mistake them for the ends of users’ sentences. When this happens, the entire sentence has to be repeated. This is frustrating for all users, but certain user groups are affected more than others — often, the groups that can benefit the most from voice assistants.
Understanding disrupted sentences using underspecified abstract meaning representation
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is building a world-class marketing organization that drives awareness and customer engagement with the goal of educating developers, IT and line-of-business professionals, startups, partners, and executive decision makers about AWS services and solutions, their benefits, and differentiation.
Designing Conversational Agents for Multi-party Interactions
How does one extra person impact a conversation? Harvard: Addlesee, A., Sieińska, W., Gunson, N., Garcia, D.H., Dondrup, C., Lemon, O., 2023. Data Collection for Multi-party Task-based Dialogue in Social Robotics.

Voice Assistant Accessibility
Physical impairments impact what a user may ask a voice assistant and how they can take action when given a response. For example, people affected by sight loss will ask about their visual surroundings, and people with hearing difficulties will expect a multimodal response. Visual Impairment Blind and partially sighted people often suffer from seemingly unrelated health conditions like malnutrition.
The Future of Voice Assistants: What are the Early Research Trends?
Five Years of PhD Discussions at YRRSDS and SIGdial New areas of interest crop up in conversational AI, while others fade from discussion. In order to analyse the early research trends, I decided to explore the proceedings and roundtable discussion notes from YRRSDS 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, to the most recent in 2022 (5th and 6th September).

Using Furhat and Rasa to Assist when You Forget a Word Mid-Sentence: A Student Group Project
Can you read my… Every single one of us will intermittently try to conjure the right word for a given moment, pausing mid-sentence to try and remember it. For example, forgetting the name of a place caused this hesitation: We can all relate to this, but as cognition declines, these pauses become more common and more pronounced.

Comparison of Linked Data Triplestores: A New Contender
First Impressions of RDFox while the Benchmark is Developed Note: This article is not sponsored. Oxford Semantic Technologies let me try out the new version of RDFox and are keen to be part of the future benchmark. After reading some of my previous articles, Oxford Semantic Technologies (OST) got in touch and asked if I would like to try out their triplestore called RDFox. In this article I will share my thoughts and why I am now excited to see how they do in the future benchmark.
How Dementia Affects Conversation: Building a More Accessible Conversational AI
We all (roughly) know how to naturally converse with one another. This is mostly subconscious and only really noticeable if an interaction skews from what most consider “normal.” In the majority of cases, these are just minor differences, such as someone speaking a little too close or interrupting more often than usual. However, more significant conversational differences can start to occur when parts of the brain begin to decline in performance.
Constructing More Advanced SPARQL Queries
CONSTRUCT queries, VALUES and more property paths. It was (quite rightly) pointed out that I strangely did not cover CONSTRUCT queries in my previous tutorial on Constructing SPARQL Queries. Additionally, I then went on to use CONSTRUCT queries in both my Transforming Tabular Data into Linked Data tutorial and the Linked Data Reconciliation article.
Comparing Linked Data Triplestores
There are many Triplestores available and it is difficult to decide which is best for each use-case. In this article I tie all of my previous posts together and explore the pros and cons of some of the most popular triplestores. I will be using RDF and SPARQL queries that I have created and discussed previously.
Constructing SPARQL Queries – Wallscope – Medium
From simple queries to federated queries and property paths If you have not read any of my previous posts and are new to RDF and Linked Data you may want to check out some of my previous articles: Why Use Linked Data to Tackle Big Data Problems Understanding Linked Data Formats Creating Linked Data with OpenRefine In that last article we created a dataset which you can download if you wish to try out the queries we will construct here. What is SPARQL?
