Welcome to the future
After finishing high school, David Ferrall enrolled at the University of Tasmania, but decided to quit after three months. "I worked as a photographer for a newspaper at a creative studio in Tasmania. That didn't last very long, so I went travelling for a couple of years. I sailed around the world delivering yachts. Starting from Darwin to South Africa, around to Brazil, up to the Caribbean, then across to the UK before settling for a while in the south of France," he says.
From backstage to spotlight
Raised in Sydney's North Shore, navigating male-dominated spaces has been second nature for Helen de Mestre her whole life, in part due to having three older brothers. Today, as a mother of three boys, she jokingly quips that the male-driven narrative of her life shows no signs of letting up. I've learned that you can't take things personally in times of change. Gunn's strong connection to the environment started in his teens, after being introduced to sustainable farming through a family friend. Fast forward to today, and as founding director and chief executive of Kilter Rural, Gunn and his team work hard to transform yield profiles in Australian farmland, biodiversity and water assets.
The influencer
In the early 1980s, Ireland was experiencing one of the worst prolonged recessions marked by, among other upheavals, soaring inflation and sky-high unemployment. After graduating Trinity College in Dublin with an engineering degree during the depths of the depression, Vince Sully, like many of his classmates, decided to move elsewhere to seek better opportunities. There is a place for everybody on social media.
Over the hedge
Hailing from the country town of Armidale in New South Wales, Kirsten Temple dared to cut the cord, venturing away from the familiar to embark on an investment industry odyssey. Her journey led her to London, whereby after a series of temporary jobs and an unpleasant stint at a hedge fund, she landed an investment research analyst role at Aon. As an investment research analyst, Temple met with managers, formed recommendations, and presented them to consultants.
