Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Founding Tech Dergi. I didn't wait for an opportunity; I created one. I wanted to build a platform that bridges the gap between global tech trends and the Turkish audience, so I hired myself.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Once, but I panicked without "Ctrl+Z". I have huge respect for anyone who wrote without a delete key!
How is social media changing news?
Algorithms are the new editors. Social media democratized information, but it also created echo chambers where people only see what they agree with.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Clark Kent (Superman). Because he represents the ideal that journalism is about truth, justice, and standing up for the powerless, even when you have the power to do anything.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To be a journalist is to write the truth, to convey the facts to the public, and to know that one's ultimate responsibility is to humanity.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
#PretendToBeSurprised – For when we already saw all the leaks weeks ago.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email is the only way. Please keep the subject line clear and concise. I prefer pitches that get straight to the point and include a link to the press kit (images/specs) immediately.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
WordPress for publishing, Ahrefs for SEO strategy, and VS Code for when I need to tweak the backend. Also, Adobe Creative Cloud for all things visual.
What's your favorite social network?
Instagram – Technology is a visual experience. It’s the perfect platform for visual storytelling, unboxing new gadgets, and reaching the younger generation through dynamic content like Reels.
Who do you wish followed you?
Marques Brownlee (MKBHD). He set the gold standard for tech reviews. Getting a follow from him would be the ultimate seal of approval for a tech editor.
Why did you become a journalist?
Because truth matters. In an era of clickbait and misinformation, I felt a responsibility to build a platform where accuracy comes before speed, and where the reader's trust is the only metric that counts.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes. I was responsible for the layout and page design, which was my first step into visual structure. I also had the honor of writing a special feature piece dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
The Logitech G522 Review. The proudest moment was that Logitech entrusted us with the product before the general media. Being chosen as the first outlet to receive the unit was a huge vote of confidence in our expertise and showed that major brands value our voice in the Turkish market.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
First, do not rush; take the time to see the truth and remain realistic. Never compromise on impartiality, which is the golden rule of journalism. Finally, always adopt an inclusive language that brings people together, rather than dividing them.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Weekdays between 9 AM and 11 AM (GMT+3 / Turkish Time). I like to review potential stories with my morning coffee before the daily editorial rush begins.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
"We have an exclusive review unit reserved for you." It showed they valued my opinion and wanted my audience to see the product first. Simple, direct, and mutually beneficial.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
A press release for organic cat food. Unless the cat is a robot or the food has RGB lighting, it's probably not a fit for Tech Dergi.
What's your favorite drink?
It’s the fuel for my coding sessions and essential for good conversation. Plus, it keeps me awake during late-night launches!
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Exploring the mountains of the Black Sea region with my camera. Nature is the best place to recharge my creativity.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Hacker News (Y Combinator) – Great for deep technical discussions and spotting trends early.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
As someone with a repair background, I believe maintaining and understanding our current devices is just as important as chasing the latest flagship.
