Ivory Anniversary: Saving Animals, Celebrating the Piano and Remembering a Special Pianist
A Source of Ivory Ivory Anniversary - 14 years A congratulatory reminder from HubPages, reminding me of 14 years writing for them, cited this ‘Fun fact’: ’14-year anniversary celebrations traditionally include gifts of ivory. Why not celebrate by making a relaxing piano music playlist to listen to while you write your next article?’ Rather than making a piano music playlist (which I already have), I thought I’d investigate where ivory comes from and the laws governing its use.
Writing Rocks 'n' Rolls; Its Forms, Purposes, Use of Language and Process
Words Writing Rocks 'n' Rolls Bill Holland, an online writer, traveller and friend, completed a mammoth weekly series of 400 mailbags, designed to help both aspiring and established writers. In his last ‘Mailbag’ he challenged us to write a poem or some prose with the proviso that it should be our very best - a tall order! I responded with a story called ‘The Friend’. I have loved writing since well before I was ten, thanks to encouragement from my parents and gifted teachers.
The Knife Angel: The National Monument at Gloucester Cathedral; Artist, Message and Impact
The Knife Angel at Gloucester Cathedral Impact of Sculpture The Knife Angel is a sculpture. Not just any sculpture but an expression against violence and aggression, formed to take part in saving lives by encouraging people to surrender their knives under an amnesty, never again to use them aggressively. It was constructed in 2018. On Saturday 25th February 2023 I went to have a look at it.
Book Club Review: 'Mrs England' by Stacey Halls; an Historical, Entertaining Story
Ann loves to read, is a member of a book club, and enjoys recommending stories which appeal to her eclectic taste. Book Club I am an enthusiastic member of a local book club in Somerset, England. Reading has always been my passion but life kind of got in the way of having several stories on the go at once, though I never stopped reading. Now I have the time.
Writers in the Family: Nature or Nurture? Influences, Circumstance and Luck
I love to write; it's in my blood. Stories, poems, non-fiction, travel articles and much more are waiting to be put into print. My Parents' Writing and Creativity Is Writing in the Blood? Does writing run in the family? Is the ability to put pen to paper inherited, nature rather than nurture? Do we adapt to interests, things which come easily, or are we influenced by our education and our family environment, or is it simply a mixture of all those things?
Book Review: The Vanishing of Audrey Wilde by Eve Chase; Highly Recommended
I love to read and recommend stories which I consider well written and entertaining in one way or another. Book Club 'The Vanishing of Audrey Wilde' is a novel I chose for the book club of which I've been a member for several years. I found it by chance and because it's set partly in the 50s, my first decade, I was drawn to it. I became enchanted, the rest of the members enjoyed it, and therefore I would like to share it with you.
Wildlife in a Somerset Garden: Observing a Variety of Visitors; Birds, Animals, Butterflies, Moths and Insects
Wildlife is a passion of mine, especially birds; my garden allows me to experience a variety of species and I delight in their presence. Wind in the Willows Between the Sea & the Somerset Levels I’m privileged to live close to the Somerset Levels where wildlife abounds. Also close to the sea, I have the best of both worlds.

We are breaking the fast of the night and setting ourselves up for a great day! Thanks, Brenda, for your continuing efforts to inspire us! Salmon and scrambled eggs or Toast and Marmalade? Porridge à la Scots with salt, or Pancakes freshly made? Smorgasbord of cheese and meats or yoghurt mixed with fruit?
"Salt" Perfectly Seasoned
I had been hearing about "Salt" since they opened about a year ago. Been meaning to try the place and finally got around to checking out the restaurant on the the westside of Lakewood at 17625 Detroit. Owner Jessica Parkinson turned a dive bar into one of the best restaurants in Cleveland. In 2018 head chef Jill Vedaa was a semi-finalist in the prestigous James Beard awards, as well as winning "Guy's Grocery Games" on the Food Network. The restaurant is painted completely black.
Flash Fiction- Forgotten Dreams
Nellie sat down on an old mattress someone had tossed haphazardly in the alley of forgotten dreams. She felt comfortable here, away from prying eyes and pointing fingers. Thinking back, " She remembers vividly the first day she'd found this dirty haven of rest. " She'd tried desperately to find a publisher who would like her poetry and stories enough to at least read them. Instead, she was told over and over again, " Writers and poets are a dime a dozen.
The 2016 PC Police Conference
Ben: Hello everyone. Thanks for coming today. I think we have a very diverse group here, and I know we can work together to make the 2016 National PC Police Conference a smashing success. The first order of business is to decide where to have the conference. Since the conference is slated for Washington D.C., we need to come up with a venue. Any ideas? Donald: Well, what comes to mind right offhand is the Mayflower Hotel. Dylan: Mayflower?
Are They Cornish Words?
I also found that some of the words I used were not understood, so I thought they must have been Cornish words. Some that I remember and still use are: Tifling: Pronounced 'taifling', which meant a small thread hanging from some clothing, often from a hem or a collar. It's not in the English Dictionary and I don't think there's an English word to replace it. Trug: The basket that I carry my gardening things around with me.
An Interview with Paintdrips
Antidisestablishmentarianism. I feel so smart just typing it. It is the longest word in the dictionary and although it doesn’t come up often in sentences, I love that I know it. 2. What is your least favorite word? Masticate. It isn’t a bad word but it just sounds so creepy to say. I would say Hate or Jealousy or any racist words, but those are already taken but greater minds and writers than I. 3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? Music.
The Answers that Atheists Hope No One Has? (Chapter Five)
What they won't tell you is that any ideology that is corrupted at it's core can be used for violence. Atheism is not an ideology, it is a disbelief in gods. The secular regimes that committed atrocities did so for other reasons central to their ideologies. Atheism alone is too general a notion to spark any sort of cruelty, in order to do that other elements must be present.
45 Awesome Sounding Words
Dictionary of AwesomenessMaybe you're looking for a cool title for your bad guy. Perhaps you're trying to name your guild in an MMO. Either way, you need something that sounds impressive. Whatever the case, you don't just need a word, you need an epic word. Fortunately for you, some words just sound cool. I've been in your spot several times and decided I never want to be there again.
