1 Introduction Herbaria traditionally provide materials for taxonomical and biogeographical research. In recent decades, the range of potential usage of these collections has become wider (Funk 2003; Pyke and Ehrlich 2010; James et al. 2018). Closer cooperation between botanists (e.g., herbarium collectors) and ecologists has already been called for by Stern and Eriksson (1996).
1 INTRODUCTION The trait composition of plant communities is supposed to reflect their functionality, including their response to environmental variation and effect on ecosystem functions (Lavorel & Garnier, 2002). Selection of species from the species pool into a community (Švamberková & Lepš, 2020) is expected to follow assembly rules based on species traits (Götzenberger et al., 2012).
