VO: The Vaccine Ontology
Abstract Vaccines are widely used in both research and clinical settings. To facilitate FAIR data practices, we urgently need to standardize vaccine representation, integrate information across diverse vaccine types, and support computer-assisted reasoning. Accordingly, we have since 2007 developed the community-based Vaccine Ontology (VO), which aligns with the Basic Formal Ontology and adheres to OBO Foundry principles.
Changes in Multiple Sclerosis Clinical Care and Outcomes During the COVID‐19 Era: A Population‐Wide Study
1. Introduction Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) was first identified in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan, China. Since then, it rapidly spread worldwide until it was upgraded to a pandemic on March 11, 2020. As of September 10, 2024, the WHO reported a total of 776,007,137confirmed cases and 7,059,612 confirmed deaths globally [1]. The first COVID-19 case in Sweden was confirmed in January 2020, with upward of 2.7 million to date [2].

Premorbid Sociodemographic Status and Multiple Sclerosis Outcomes in a Universal Health Care Context
Key Points Question Is premorbid sociodemographic status associated with multiple sclerosis severity, independent of treatment? Findings In this nationwide cohort study of 4557 patients in a universal health care context, higher premorbid educational attainment and income were associated with up to 47% milder subsequent disability and patient-reported symptoms in both relapse-onset and progressive-onset disease, after adjusting for individual treatment.

Association between clinic-level quality of care and patient-level outcomes in multiple sclerosis
Abstract Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) quality of care guidelines are consensus-based. The effectiveness of the recommendations is unknown. Objective: To determine whether clinic-level quality of care affects clinical and patient-reported outcomes. Methods: This nationwide observational cohort study included patients with adult-onset MS in the Swedish MS registry with disease onset 2005–2015.
Association between early treatment of multiple sclerosis and patient-reported outcomes: a nationwide observational cohort study
Statistical analysis To account for potential indication bias, patients in the early-treated group were propensity-score matched to the late DMT group based on the following variables: age at disease onset, sex, baseline EDSS (within the first 2 years of disease and either prior to or less than 6 months from initiation of DMT) and relapse rate at baseline (first 2 years following disease onset).
Rituximab Infusion Timing, Cumulative Dose, and Hospitalization for COVID-19 in Persons With Multiple Sclerosis in Sweden
Research Letter Neurology December 1, 2021 JAMA Netw Open. 2021;4(12):e2136697. doi:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2021.36697 Introduction Rituximab therapy has been associated with more severe COVID-19 infection in persons with multiple sclerosis,1,2 although this finding was based on a small number of events. Further research is needed to evaluate the potential increased risk for severe disease.
Timing of high-efficacy therapy for multiple sclerosis: a retrospective observational cohort study
Summary Background High-efficacy therapies in multiple sclerosis are traditionally used after unsuccessful treatment with first-line disease modifying therapies. We hypothesised that early commencement of high-efficacy therapy would be associated with reduced long-term disability. We therefore aimed to compare long-term disability outcomes between patients who started high-efficacy therapies within 2 years of disease onset with those who started 4–6 years after disease onset.
Comparison of Switch to Fingolimod or Interferon Beta/Glatiramer Acetate in Active Multiple Sclerosis
Importance After multiple sclerosis (MS) relapse while a patient is receiving an injectable disease-modifying drug, many physicians advocate therapy switch, but the relative effectiveness of different switch decisions is often uncertain. Objective To compare the effect of the oral immunomodulator fingolimod with that of all injectable immunomodulators (interferons or glatiramer acetate) on relapse rate, disability, and treatment persistence in patients with active MS.
