Why Cryptography Matters
Encryption isn’t just a tech headline — it’s the quiet layer protecting almost everything you do online, from private messages to business files. If cryptography feels abstract, here’s a simple metaphor to make it click. A way to understand cryptography: the cookie-shop Imagine you run a bakery famous for chocolate chip cookies. You keep trays of fresh cookies on the counter so you can hand them to customers quickly. Every afternoon, the nearby school lets out.
What a Quarter Horse Taught Me about Business & Strategy
What a Quarter Horse Taught Me about Business & Strategy Anybody who’s ever played a sport knows it teaches lessons that can be applied to your work life — things like discipline, perseverance and teamwork. Horseback riding — a relatively uncommon sport — teaches a unique set of lessons. I’ve often thought of writing on this topic but never got around to it. Just recently, I lost my long-time equine partner, a Quarter Horse named Hershey.

Recently, at a business gathering, someone asked me what I thought of AI. I told her she might not like what I had to say. She pressed me to answer. When I was done, my questioner and other nearby listeners all scowled and walked away. I felt radioactive. So here goes nothin’. The five reasons AI is heading for a crash. AI needs data to learn.

But while favoritism does happen, it’s not always what it seems. The truth is: managers are human. They click more easily with some personalities. They might chat more with certain people, share common interests, or default to the colleague whose communication style mirrors their own.

Meeting Misbehavior
Meetings are a necessary evil. Many participants make it worse than it has to be. Here are 7 the worst misbehaviors. How many are you committing on a regular basis? The long pause to hit un-mute. The stuttering, “Wait? What was that?” We all have email to answer (or online shopping to do). You’re not fooling anyone when you say, “I didn’t understand the question. Can you rephrase it?” “The question was are you available Friday? I’m not sure how else to put it.” Maybe it’s the headset.

The Writing Advice ‘Show Don’t Tell’ Is Wrong
Photo by Steve Johnson on Unsplash If you’ve read writing-advice blogs or attended a writing webinar, you’ve heard the command, “show, don’t tell.” Many novice writers drive themselves crazy trying to adhere to it — to their detriment. Here’s your permission to chuck it out the window. (Feel free to skip ahead if you’re weary of the show-don’t-tell dead-horse flogging.) “Showing” means giving concrete details or actions that imply what you want to convey rather than stating it outright.
