The Misguided Celebration of Sydney Sweeney's Ad
I opened Instagram a few weeks ago to a barrage of reels showing clips of female athletes training and competing in their various sports.
Kansas' Controversial Vote
Politics makes for strange bedfellows. This primary season, I found myself voting with the ACLU of Kansas to oppose a constitutional amendment allowing for popular election of Supreme Court justices in my home state. In pushing this bill, Kansas Republicans seem to have forgotten a judge’s proper role: to say what the law is, free from popular pressure. It’s true that Kansas’s method of selecting justices is unique among the states.
Reviving Cultural Monoculture
It’s been an incredible year for movies. The 2026 summer movie season kicked off with Blumhouse’s Obsession, which had unusual staying power for a horror film, followed closely by Backrooms, an indie horror film that gave A24 its best opening weekend ever. These early releases were, however, mere harbingers for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which rapidly surpassed $1 billion in gross revenue and will likely become the acclaimed director’s crowning achievement thus far.
Theology, Logic, and Rhetoric
Over the summer, Americans rediscovered an appreciation for ancient epics, with Nolan’s blockbuster sending copies of The Odyssey flying off bookstore shelves. Aficionados of ancient epics should consider adding another book to their newly minted classical libraries: Virgil’s Aeneid, which also begins with the fall of Troy. A rather famous scene in The Aeneid shows Aeneas careening out of Troy, carrying his father, Anchises, on his back while gripping his young son’s hand, Ascanius.

Lambert hosts poetry night at Sohn Residence
Women of all years filled the Sohn Residence lobby Oct. 20, curled up on couches, perched on armrests, and sitting cross-legged on the floor listening intently to Assistant Professor of English Christina Lambert read and explore pieces by one of her favorite poets: Denise Levertov. This is the second year Sohn has hosted a poetry night with Lambert in fulfillment of the dorm academic event requirement.
