Consecutive outpatients with IBD in remission phase, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, were recruited at the Unit of Gastroenterology of Local Unit Health (AUSL) of Bologna (Italy), after a check-up visit. The diagnosis of CD and UC were based on clinical history, blood and fecal tests, endoscopic, histologic and radiologic findings, following the ECCO-ESGAR Guidelines [32, 33]. Patients were recruited at baseline between December 2018 and January 2020.
