The pandemic has fed a bike boom, but are we prepared?
Many in Chicago's bike community are both optimistic and concerned about the increase in bike sales and bike riding during the pandemic. Widespread desire for social distancing is likely to reshape our transportation picture significantly as businesses reopen and more people return to commuting. Many who previously relied on public transit for their commute will shift to biking or driving. Accounts from local bike shops and news sources note a significant increase in bike sales.

Divvy could get $50M expansion, including e-assist and dockless bikes in all 50 wards
The proposal would add 175 new stations and an additional 10,500 new bikes. (The current system has 6,000 bikes). The bikes would include e-assist and a hybrid locking system that allows use in Divvy docks, or locking to regular bike racks. Bike thieves, one of the lowest forms of life
So now I see that they're breaking into shops and taking the cream of the crop. This must really be catastrophic for the owners, who deserve a lot better and give a lot to the community. Another reason why I tend to like cats more than people, present company excepted. Block Club story Tags: Share Tweet Facebook Facebook Views: 378 ▶ Reply to This

How do you mount your pony?
For the longest time I've always mounted my bicycle from the non drive side. Recently I've developed a bit of pain in my left hip and knee and found it might be necessary to carefully swing my left leg over from the drive side to even out the workload to my body instead. It feels like I'm learning to ride all over again! Just curious to see if there are more experienced ambidextrous riders out there and if they have any tips they can share.

Shout Out to The Recyclery
Been meaning to drop off some parts at The Recyclery for awhile, and recently acquired a bike which needed wheels. I finally ran over there today. They were appreciative of the parts donation, and I couldn't have been more pleased with the help I got finding wheels. No less than three people helped me at various times. On top of it all, the price for the wheels was terrific.

An attempt to steal the bicycle in Downtown
From Amber Crain: Chicagoans... a few months ago my boyfriend's bike was stolen from outside his downtown office in the loop despite being locked with a kryptonite u-lock. He got a new bike, the strongest u-lock available and a chain lock. Last week, someone attempted to steal his bike again. Below is some video footage. The thief wore a yellow "official looking" public service coat while using an angle grinder with sparks flying.

Active Trans is postponing the Winter Bike to Work Rally
I got an e-mail from them yesterday. It is reflected on their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/events/327502661313125/ I felt like a weenie when I cancelled Evanston Bike Club's ride down to the event after seeing projections for zero at best at the time we would ride. It's going to be one of those days where I will still wear goggles simply walking to the train. I know the hardcore will scoff at this. So be it. You guys/gals rock, I'll take public transit.
