Pearls & Oy-sters: Hemiballism and Orbitofrontal-like Syndrome in a Patient With Unilateral Tuberothalamic Stroke
Pearls Unilateral tuberothalamic stroke frequently causes behavioral changes and impairment of recent memory, especially in the left hemisphere, whereas motor signs are mostly minimal or even absent. The tuberothalamic artery supplies the paramedian thalamic area including the subthalamic nucleus, with ischemic stroke of this structure being the most common nongenetic cause of acquired chorea.

Impaired semantic memory during acute transient global amnesia
Abstract As a clinical model of hippocampal dysfunction, transient global amnesia (TGA) causes reversible memory disturbance. While episodic memory deficits in TGA patients have been extensively described, data regarding semantic memory involvement are sparse and contradictory. We report impaired semantic fluency performance in 16 patients with hippocampal lesions on MRI during acute TGA compared to their performance one day later and to that of 20 healthy subjects.
Diffusely appearing white matter in multiple sclerosis: insights from sodium (23Na) MRI
Highlights • Using sodium ( 23Na) MRI, we found increased sodium values in the normal appearing gray and white matter in MS patients compared to healthy controls • Sodium values in T1 hypointense and T1 isointense lesions were significantly higher than in the DAWM • The DAWM showed similar sodium concentrations to the NAWM, suggesting pathological changes less severe than in focal lesions comparable to what is expected in the NAWM Abstract Background In multiple sclerosis (MS), magnetic...
Investigation of the “central vein sign” in infratentorial multiple sclerosis lesions
Highlights • We analyzed 527 lesions in 119 MS patients • A central vein sign (CVS) was present in the majority of infratentorial lesions (62/88, 70%) • Infratentorial lesions showed a CVS more often than juxtacortical lesions • We found no difference in the frequencies of the CVS of infratentorial lesions compared to paraventricular or subcortical lesions • Periventricular lesions showed a CVS more often than infratentorial lesions Abstract Background : Recently there has been an increasing...
