What if RFK had been in charge in the 1950s?
To the Editor: Thank you, Sally Kerschner and Jon Shaffer, for your letter calling on Vermont’s Congressional delegation and Gov. Scott to demand the immediate removal of RFK. Jr. as the Secretary of Health and Human Services (“Kennedy is a grave threat to our society,” Sept 18, 2025). In September 1953, when I was eight years old, my mother was hospitalized with polio for 12 weeks. She returned home and walked with crutches the rest of her life.
Word to the mother
To the Editor: Thank you, Kelly Hedglin Bowen, St. George, for the best letter I’ve ever read in The Citizen — May 15, “Save the Hallmark card and fight like a mother.” Anne C. Sullivan Hinesburg
Carpenter-Carse helps new resident feel at home
To the Editor: I moved to Hinesburg two years ago from Framingham, Mass., my home state. I’m a married retired senior and I was very homesick for the first year in Vermont. (“Hinesburg seeks a new director,” July 20, 2023) I didn’t enjoy reading until I started college. Even after I had two daughters, it was my husband who took them to the library. In Framingham I used the two libraries often after they were grown.
Let’s keep listening to student voices
To the Editor: As a new Hinesburg resident who believes in hope through the next generation, I commend Nisha Hickock, Lexi Hall and Merrill Jacobs, students at Champlain Valley Union High School, for attending school board meetings and presenting their lived experience so truthfully and persuasively. (“CVU students propose new equity requirement,” May 23, 2023) I’ve not met any of them, but I believe their young voices demand to be considered seriously.

Abstract Sexual choking/strangulation has become prevalent among young U.S. adults, yet little is known about media articles that teach readers about choking. We conducted a content analysis of 27 Internet articles, examining how choking is described, information related to health risks and healthcare, and article accuracy. Most articles described choking in positive terms and indicated choking can be done safely or properly, even while acknowledging potential dangers.
Councils' USP is their focus on employees as people
By Sonia Tanda and Anne Sullivan and Sue Atkinson | 24 November 2021 The pandemic changed the overall landscape of the public sector, which like others, is struggling to recruit and retain. Prior to COVID, local government’s recruitment unique selling proposition (USP) traded on a strong flexible work offer; condensed hours, term-time contracts and working from home. Now this has been embraced by most employers a competitive edge has been lost.

Telemetry-Supported Game Design
Madden NFL 11 - EA Sports Game telemetry is being used both during development and post release. One of the most exciting applications of this work is the use of game telemetry to support the game design process. Game telemetry analysis can help a designer answer the following questions: How do players interact with the game? Which features, modes, and content are players experiencing? Why do players quit playing the game? Using game telemetry provides an alternative to conventional playtesting.

Getting Started with ABL
While I have been advocating the use of reactive planning for over a year now, there is often a large amount of middleware between a game environment and the reactive planning agent that needs to be defined in order to make use of ABL in games. The goal of this article is to provide a tutorial for interfacing a game environment with a simple ABL agent.
Dissertation: Integrating Learning in a Multi-Scale Agent
Building expert-level artificial intelligence for real-time strategy games remains an open research challenge. StarCraft in particular provides an excellent environment for AI research, because the game has many real-world properties and is played at an extremely competitive level. It is also an environment in which human decision making can be observed, emulated, and evaluated.

Employ youths this summer to build future workforce
As Greater Des Moines business leaders, we have an opportunity and an obligation to help prepare our region’s future workforce. As a state we are enjoying record low unemployment rates. Our youth, however, are facing a different reality. For youth between the ages of 16-24, the unemployment rate is nearly three times higher at 11 percent. If you break that number out even further for youth between the ages of 16-19, the rate is four times higher at 16.8 percent unemployment.
