Advancing Probiotic Intervention Studies in Preterm Infants-Reply
Advancing Probiotic Intervention Studies in Preterm Infants—Reply In Reply We appreciate the letter by Guo and Wang reflecting the findings of our recent Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus Probiotics and Gut Dysbiosis in Preterm Infants (PRIMAL) Randomized Clinical Trial.1 The single-country focus of the PRIMAL approach to study the effect of multistrain probiotics on the prevalence of drug-resistant organisms and microbiome patterns limits the universality of findings.

Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus Probiotics and Gut Dysbiosis in Preterm Infants: The PRIMAL Randomized Clinical Trial
Key Points Question For preterm infants exposed to a variety of microbiome-disturbing factors, does administration of multistrain Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus probiotics reduce the rate of colonization with multidrug-resistant organisms and highly epidemic bacteria (MDRO+) at day 30 of life compared with placebo?
Synthesis of a series of amino acid derived ionic liquids and tertiary amines: green chemistry metrics including microbial toxicity and preliminary biodegradation data analysis - Green Chemistry (RSC Publishing)
A series of -phenylalanine ionic liquids (ILs), -tyrosine ILs, tertiary amino analogues and proposed transformation products (PTPs) have been synthesised. Antimicrobial toxicity data, as part of the green chemistry metrics evaluation and to supplement preliminary biodegradation studies, was determined for ILs, tertiary amino analogues and PTPs. Good to very good overall yields (76 to 87%) for the synthesis of 6 ILs from -phenylalanine were achieved.
On the way to greener ionic liquids: identification of a fully mineralizable phenylalanine-based ionic liquid
Over the past few decades ionic liquids (ILs) are increasingly seen as an important building block of green chemistry because of their specific properties as solvents, such as their potential for high recyclability, low volatility, low flammability, low toxicity, and their potential for synthesis from renewable resources. However, avoiding persistent or toxic cation/anion fragments is also urgently needed.
