Anteprime Europei 2018: Poco Competitive Le Distanze Lunghe?
Articolo a cura di Braden Keith. Tradotto dall’inglese.
2018 Euros Previews: Men’s Distance Frees Are Low-Key Competitive
The men’s distance events at the 2018 European Championships ‘feel’ like they should be Gregorio Paltrinieri’s to dominate, but the old continent has seen increasing depth in the discipline even since the 2016 Olympic Games. Combined with the absence of Gabriele Detti, who will miss his 2nd-straight European Championship with a shoulder injury, these races have opened up and become fairly interesting with lots of fresh names (from atypical countries) entering the fold.

Veronica Burchill Swims Another Middle Distance Best Time in Charlotte
Veronica Burchill may have arrived at Georgia as more of a sprinter than a middle distance freestyler, nobody escapes Jack Bauerle’s women’s team without showing serious improvement in the 200 free. Afterall, he’s had swimmers on the U.S. Olympic 800 free relay at the last 3 Games, including 2 each in 2012 and 2016. Burchill is a prime example of that.

SwimSwam Exclusive: Gary Taylor on his Busy First Weeks at Auburn
Gary Taylor‘s coaching tenure at Auburn so far, in all aspects, has had to happen at high-speed. He connected with the program just eight days before he was hired, and has made good on his promise to hire support staff within 10-14 days of his start with the program. Being the extremely busy, always-on-the-go man he now is, SwimSwam caught up with Coach Taylor as he drove back to Raleigh for NC State sprint coach Bobby Guntoro’s wedding.
Auburn to Name NC State's Gary Taylor as New Head Coach
Auburn University is expected to name current NC State associate head coach Gary Taylor as the Tigers’ new head coach, according to sources close to the program. That will fill the vacancy left by Brett Hawke, the Australian Olympian who resigned after ten years as Auburn’s head coach. Taylor will come to Auburn after six years at NC State, the past two of which he spent as the associate head coach.

She achieved a perfect 4.0 in the Fall 2017 semester, is a Dean’s Scholar, a Chi Alpha Sigma Member, a Red & Black Scholar Athlete, and a member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
Florida Men Move Into All-Time Top 10 in NCAA Event Titles
In 2017, when the Texas men won their 3rd-straight NCAA title of what has now become 4, the Texas men won 7 individual event titles out of 13 available for swimming and won 11 overall. That tied them with the 2001 Longhorns as the most event wins in NCAA history. The 2018 title, however, was a very different one.
"The Set" That Created An NCAA Champion
Any good coach or swimmer knows it’s not just “one set” that will automatically get you the results you want. But there are a few “watermark” sets, if you will, that can have a much bigger impact than whatever energy system they’re working. “We had a former coach on our staff that had told some other coaches that we had some endurance guys doing 3×[email protected]:30.” Gary Taylor of NC State explained to Chris Ritter in the Coaches Corner.
"I've done some work that I never could have done a year ago" (Video)
NC State’s Anton Ipsen went out fast, burning out the rest of the field until he was alone out front. Michigan’s Felix Auboeck fought him hard for much of the way, but eventually fell off and settled for secon din 14:29.42. Cal’s Nick Norman came through with a massive swim to keep his Golden Bears in the hunt. Norman added more than 30 seconds last year and was almost dead last, but this year he blasted his way to bronze in 14:30.82 – almost a full minute faster than he was last season.

Day 4 Finals Live Recap
A year of speculation, storylines and game-changing swims comes to a head tonight, as the NCAA men’s champion will be crowned in Minneapolis. It’s been an explosive four days in perhaps the most exciting NCAA Championships in memory, and tonight should prove no less enthralling. At the top: the team battle. Indiana leads by 19 after night 3, with Texas second and Cal third.
Anton Ipsen Moves to #9 All-Time with 14:24 to Win 1650 Free
2018 MEN’S NCAA SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS Through the front half of tonight’s 1650 free, Michigan’s Felix Auboeck set the pace, but NC State’s Anton Ipsen was in the hunt, running him down on the back half. Ipsen took over after the 1000-yard mark, pulling ahead steadily throughout the closing 650 to win by body lengths in 14:24.43.
"It's going to be a crazy race" (Video)
Texas’s Townley Haas led the entire way, but things started to look bleak with about 150 to go. The field started to charge on Haas – first Michigan’s Felix Auboeck, then NC State’s Anton Ipsen, then Stanford’s Grant Shoults. But Haas suddenly surged home in 23.94 to hang on for the win, his second NCAA 500 free title in three years. Auboeck finished second in 4:09.03, closing hard and holding off NC State’s Ipsen, who was 23.8 over the final 50 yards.
500 Freestyle Comes Back to Earth After Scorching 2017 NCAAs
The 2017 NCAA Championships were fast. When looking back on that meet it can difficult to see beyond Caeleb Dressel‘s 40.00 in 100 free or his 43.58 in the 100 fly, or Texas’s 2:59.22 in the 400 medley relay, but the 500 freestyle was also incredible. Clark Smith broke the American Record with a 4:08.42 (though the record has since be lowered again by Zane Grothe), and he had to fight hard to fend off teammate Townley Haas, the 2016 champion in the 500, and Michigan’s Felix Auboeck.
2018 M. NCAA Previews: Gators a Major Title Threat in 800 Free Relay
We’re getting ready for the first event at the Men’s NCAA Championships, as the meet gets started with the 800 free relay tonight. Last season, NC State blew away the NCAA Record, while Texas was 2 seconds back to take down the American Record. The Wolfpack returns 3 members of its champion relay: Ryan Held, Justin Ress, and Andreas Vazaios. The loss of Soeren Dahl, who split a 1:30.67 last season, could be hard to make up for, but the NC State men are still very much in the title conversation.

Day 4 Finals Live Recap
The final session of the 2018 ACC championships will feature the fastest heat of the 1650, the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and the 400 free relay. NC State swimmers Anton Ipsen and Justin Ress will be swimming in lane four in the 1650 and the 100 free. The latter race is sure to be a thrill after Ress dipped under 42 this morning, but Ress will have to fend off teammate and defending champion Ryan Held if he’s going to touch the wall first.
2018 ACC MEN’S CHAMPS: DAY 3 FINALS LIVE RECAP
It was an exciting morning for the third day of the 2018 ACC championships, highlighted by NC State’s Coleman Stewart’s 44.80 in the 100 back. Stewart is also in the 100 fly, where teammate Ryan Held will be in lane four after a 45.28 this morning. Another Wolfpack swimmer, Justin Ress, was the top seed in the 200 free, as NC State will look to extend its lead in the battle for team points. Unlike yesterday, however, NC State will not be in lane four in every event.
Virginia Women Beat NC State in DeSorbo's First Meet Against Wolfpack
The NC State Wolfpack and Virginia Cavaliers split Friday in one of the most intriguing ACC dual meets of the 2017-2018 season. The two teams have accounted for all except two ACC championships since the 1998-1999 season on the men’s side, and all of the last ten women’s championships.

Grothe and All-American Anton Ipsen were separated by just a few tenths though most of the race, with just .14 separating them going into the final 100.
Chase Kalisz: "When I Dove in, I Was So Excited" (Video)
World Champions Chase Kalisz raced to a new Pool Record to win his signature 400 IM, finishing just over a second shy of his own Pro Swim Series Record. His 4:10.80 tonight cleared his own former Pool Record of 4:11.51. Kalisz was head and shoulders above the field, dominating by over 8 seconds as Anton Ipsen was the only other swimmer to break 4:20. Ipsen and bronze medalist Tristan Cote were within a few tenths of each other until Ipsen pulled ahead on the free leg.
