Have you ever used a typewriter?
I started using one around age 10. A red Olivetti which had the key pads come off all the time. My first stories were written on it.
How is social media changing news?
A lot of not news are posted as news. News themselves are probably boosted by the impact and reach of social media. But so is noise.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter is my poison of choice. Also YouTube.
Why did you become a journalist?
There is something unexplainable about the feeling you get when delivering the news. I am addicted to that feeling.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I was a staff writer and columnist both in high school and at university.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Learn ethics and don't stop learning. Curate a writing style. And remember: if you don't understand something, neither will a reader.
What's your favorite drink?
I have several. Hibiscus water. Horchata (both the Spanish original and Mexico's version). Lemonade. Milk and milkshakes.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Out, talking to people. Probably taking pictures too. Or having a coffee somewhere.

New York Times, Guardian, El País, Le Monde, L'Observateur, Economist, Clarín, Washington Post, Houston Chronicle, IHT, Foreign Affairs
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That I get to travel 1st class on the companies I cover. I don't. But it would be nice if it happened (its not like anyone hates 1st class!)
