What was your first job as a journalist?
showcasing your academic ability, you need to communicate a clear dedication to journalism. All your clippings and showreels need to be preciously kept. Your blog needs to be well maintained, fresh and up to date. It’s paramount you undertake a dedicated journalism course – these are highly regarded by the industry. The Broadcast Journalism Training Council and the Periodicals Training Council both accredit courses. The NCTJ Diploma in Journalism offered by the National Council for the Training of Journalists is considered a must by most regional newspapers.

How is social media changing news?
Social media is one of the best ways to get traction with the mobile market. Far more people have crappy cell phones than computers. This allows journalists to reach lower and even middle-income communities and minorities that news organizations have been overlooking. Why are you a journalist in the first place? — Hopefully, it’s more than writing articles and seeing your byline. It’s to reach communities where they are, and they’re on the phone
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Jack Staff is a British superhero created by comic book writer/artist Paul Grist. Billed as "Britain's Greatest Hero", it is known for being in the style of an anthology title and for its multi-linear plotlines.
He first saw print in comics published by Paul Grist's Dancing Elephant Press, and is now published by Image Comics. Comics International began exclusive publication of a monthly four-page strip featuring the supporting character Ben Kulmer (the Claw); this started in #185 of the magazine and was set to run for twelve episodes. These strips have since been reprinted by Image Comics in a special.

When's the best time to pitch you?
The working day can be hectic and all over the shop. Ideally, you want to target journalists at the calmest point of their day, when they aren’t too busy and are reviewing emails. Generally mid-morning, until around lunchtime yields good results before editorial meetings. This falls after the rush of settling in for the day and sorting through the morning’s emails, but before afternoon deadlines start to kick in.
