The concept of drug repurposingThe aim of drug repurposing is to identify and develop new indications for approved drugs [1, 2]. In oncology, drug repositioning consists of demonstrating the anticancer properties of marketed drugs approved for nonmalignant diseases [3]. Because repositioned drugs have well-known safety and pharmacokinetic profiles, faster development can be expected. Indeed, clinical development can start directly with phase II trials to assess the efficacy of the drug.
