ESG Considerations for Equity Incentive Plans
Image by 政徳 吉田 from Pixabay Environmental, Social and Governance considerations (ESG) are expected to play an increasing role in equity pay determinations for executive officers. About 50 percent of S&P 500 companies used ESG metrics in cash-based, short-term incentive compensation plans during 2020. Conversely, only about 4 percent of S&P 500 companies used ESG metrics in long-term equity incentive plans.
Contending Aims, Contending Claims
The answer for artists, of course—and the problem—is that art gives you the right. Not only the right, but the obligation.
The Sanity of St. Benedict
Queen Victoria left this world almost at the moment that I chanced to enter it. Her memory, when I was old enough to identify it, fell thinly across my earliest childhood. People still spoke of “the Queen”, as if in all history there had been only one and everybody must know at once that Queen Victoria was meant.
Do Liberals Hate the Middle Class?
But, as I noted earlier, modern liberalism is not just one thing. Wesleyan’s liberalism is not the only liberalism on offer. Much to my surprise, I began to suspect that even the outlandish and seemingly anachronistic claims of Catholicism might offer an alternative—that Catholicism might even be true, and that liberalism might need Catholicism’s moral resources if it were to right itself.
Social Justice Warrior
Blunt, practical, far-sighted, courageous, widely read, boring teacher to some, ACLU board member in the 1920s, Commonweal writer, labeled a socialist and later “Right Reverend New Dealer,” collaborating across religious lines but always working within the Catholic Church—John Augustine Ryan was a priest both ahead of his time and for today. His goal was democracy, capitalism, and strong unions.
Choking on Growth
The causes of India’s pollution are well known: the population is vast, and everyone wants a higher standard of living. When I first moved to India in 1981, there were only three car manufacturers in the entire country—combined, they produced barely thirty-two thousand vehicles per year. Almost no one I knew had a car. Now India is the largest producer of motor vehicles in the world (including cars, trucks, buses, two- and three-wheelers, and tractors).
Monarchists at Heart?
The problem for FitzGerald’s book is one of scope and proportion. For all the depth of analysis that Evangelical theology and ministry receive in the first five chapters, the next twelve are consumed with politics.
The Right Man for the Job
I really wanted to hate Pope Francis: A Man of His Word but couldn’t bring myself to do it. In fact, I ended up kind of…uh…loving it. What’s worse, by the time the final credits rolled, one tiny tear managed to roll its way down my cheek. Much to my resentment. The thing is, it’s the kind of documentary I usually hate.
