Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Covering error guides for several Xbox issues over at Emopulse.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No, but I REALLY want to.

How is social media changing news?

On one hand it makes access to information even easier, on the other it makes it easy to spread misinformation or misinterpreted takes.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

A simple email works, preferably with links to a credible source.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I'm old fashioned in that I rely on a simple text app and then Google for research. I do use other apps when these aren't enough, though.

What's your favorite social network?

I don't enjoy any honestly.

Why did you become a journalist?

I have a strong urge to share and investigate things I find interesting, and getting paid for doing so is just perfect for me.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I spend the latter half of my high school days studying privately while working on the side, so I didn't get the chance to do so.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

If I include all my writings, it'd have to be my short story, "Mother."

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

To begin writing. Everything you write adds to your portfolio, even if it's a personal blog.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

I was asked to write an article about how AI as a writing tool makes writers obsolete. Somehow they didn't understand the irony.

What's your favorite drink?

Impossible to choose one, I'm huge into anything cold.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

With more free time on my hands, I've been enjoying walks a lot. You'd find me roaming the streets during odd nighttime hours.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

For anime, a lot of people believe the medium to only contain action shonen. This isn't true, since that's just one of many genres.
