Abstract : Plastic waste poses a serious threat to the environment and it has been increasing at an alarming rate. In 2022, global plastic waste generation was reported to be around 380 million tonnes as compared to 353 million tonnes in 2019. Production of liquid fuel from plastic waste is regarded as a viable method for disposing of the plastic and utilizing its energy.
Advances in Catalytic Production Processes of Bio-Derived Vinyl Monomers Kalpana Avasthi, Ashish Bohre, Miha Grilc, Blaž Likozar and Basudeb Saha Abstract Plastics industry technologies currently source the majority of monomers from crude oil substances.
Catalytic transformation routes for the valorization of biomass-derived 6-amyl-?-pyrone (6PP) were explored for the first time. Ring-opening and decarboxylation of 6PP in water yielded non-2-en-4-one with 95% conversion and nearly 60% selectivity at 498 K, without the requirement of an acid catalyst. The decarboxylated product was further hydrogenated to yield 4-nonanone over a Pd/C catalyst.
