Nigeria centreback Ashleigh Plumptre Competing at the Olympics is often viewed as the highlight of an athlete’s career — so for those who fail to qualify the action can be hard to watch. The feeling can be worse for sportsmen and women who miss out on a place at the Games through no fault of their own.
Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, has shared her disappointment at not making Nigeria’s squad for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris due to an injury. Plumptre, who was instrumental in Nigeria’s qualification for the Olympics by defeating teams like Cape Verde and Cameroon but was unavailable in the final playoff against South Africa, was left out of the 18-player squad selected by coach Randy Waldrum.
The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that Ashleigh Plumptre, former England youth player, has finally gotten approval to switch her allegiance to the Super Falcons. In a chat with BBC Africa, Ademola Olajire, NFF Director of Communication, said Plumptre has now been cleared by FIFA, the world football’s governing body, to wear the green and white jersey.
