Brief Introduction

Hello, I'm a 20 year old Student at the University of Warwick and my nom de plume is Ashley Lennard-Kelly.

My Writing

I've written pieces ranging in both style and length, those published on my substack are usually shorter (800-1200 words) while some of the essays I've submitted for competitions have been around or in excess of 4000 words.

I have mostly written on Politics, History and International Affairs but have also done a few pieces on Geography and Theology. I've included a few examples of my writing in my portfolio, for writing I submitted using my real name please email me.

My Background

I grew up in the South/South Midlands and was home-educated alongside my two brothers up until Secondary School. I then attended a nearby comprehensive school and studied Physics, History and Geography at A Level.

I missed a significant amount of school due to COVID-19 and therefore most of my time in the Sixth Form was spent learning virtually. During this time I joined the Liberal Democrats and campaigned with them for a short while during the 2019 general election.

I was also invited to attend the 2022 Living Freedom program in June where I met, spoke with and listened to talks from journalists and political commentators. This was ultimately what inspired me to delve into journalism.

My Political Beliefs

My political beliefs are very eclectic; however, I would define myself as being economically on the left while being socially on the right. I was once described as being "somehow Populist, Marxist, Conservative and Liberal all at the same time". I have also been called a post-liberal and am currently not a member of any political party.

Why I use a pseudonym

I use a pseudonym to protect my identity due to the amount of backlash I would likely receive from my social circle and other students if I used my real name.

However, I have written a little bit under my real name (mostly for essay competitions, a few of which I won/was shortlisted for) so if anyone is interested in commissioning me but would like more examples of my writing first then please contact me via email and I'll be more than happy to send it to you.
