Both ENDS: Reflections on working on Dutch finance for Mozambique LNG
For now, I share with you my initial thoughts on the road that took us there: Since 2018, I have been working closely with the farmers' union in northern Mozambique. I was there often; the faces, voices and stories of the people there are never far from my thoughts. My colleagues there taught me patience and determination. It is together with them that I have continued to dialogue, continued to write, continued to warn.
Both ENDS: Abuses surrounding TotalEnergies‘ LNG project in Mozambique are piling up; Dutch support irresponsible
In 2021, the Dutch state export credit insurer Atradius DSB provided export support to the Dutch dredging company Van Oord for its part in TotalEnergies' LNG project in Palma, northern Mozambique. Since the declaration of force majeure in 2021 – after the attack on Palma – Atradius has had the opportunity to reassess the project. Both ENDS and its partners have been arguing against this export support for years because of the major risks to people and the environment posed by the project.
Both ENDS: Sinking promises in Manila
Yesterday, Global Witness published a new report, "Sunk Costs" - in which I had a modest role to play - that comes up with new facts about the disastrous New Manila International Airport project in the Philippines, for which the Dutch dredging multinational Boskalis received Dutch export credit insurance (ekv) of €1.5 billion. Many are now familiar with this project because of the human rights violations and natural destruction that have accompanied it.

Both ENDS: Call on the UN to Investigate Serious Human Rights Violations in Mozambique
At the end of last week, oil and gas company Total announced that, through its export credit insurer Atradius DSB, the Dutch government is participating in a funding package for a controversial gas extraction project in Mozambique. The project, in which various Dutch and foreign companies are involved, is having a deep impact on the local population and the natural environment in the area. Which Dutch companies the government will be insuring is not yet clear.
Both ENDS: Press release: Government undermines its own climate policy with export credit insurance
Press release / 18 November 2019 The Netherlands provides export credit insurances and guarantees worth 1.5 billion euros annually to Dutch companies active in the oil and gas sector abroad. This support amounts to one and a half times the annual amount that the Cabinet of Prime Minister Rutte mobilises for climate initiatives worldwide. The intended effects of Dutch international climate policy are more than offset by this fossil export support.
